My kids eat cereal most mornings. I will buy them almost any kind they will eat (providing it's on sale or I have coupons). Once it gets to the very bottom of the box, no one touches that cereal again. So this morning I ate a few Rice Chex, mixed with a few Fruit Loops, a half handful of Cookie Crisps & a dash of Cheerios ~ yep, all in one bowl! UGH! If I didn't do that, the boxes would stay like that for months & they'd be raiding the pantry for cereal bars or whatever else they could find. It makes me crazy. My DH tells me he doesn't know anyone else who does that & mixes it all up in one bowl. :confused3 Sorry, but I can't bring myself to throw it away either!

Anyone else do this?

I don't mix it all but I do finish off what no one else will. I can't throw it our either.

I take the little bit left in the boxes and save it in a container. My kids love having dry "mixed up" cereal for a snack.

omg...that was called "cereal suprise" in my house growing up.

mom would mix all the 'odds and ends'...basically, if a box was low, she's buy a new box, and empty what was left into a big rubbermaid container.

i dont' think anyone actually ate it though.

I mix: Barbara's Cinnamon Puffins, Kashi Cinna-Crunch Raisin Bran, and Total Raisin Bran all in one bowl. It makes for a nice variety.

We tend to throw it out if there isn't another box of the same thing.

Oh boy....I just couldn't let myself throw it out if there is very little. Especially being that cereal nowadays costs as much as gold!

I like the "cereal surprise" invention! Next time my family asks me what I'm eating, that's what I'll tell them! Be sure that they will want some then! :teeth:

my kids do that and it bugs me as well. Rather then throw it out, I toss it to the chickens. Honestly, it's to the point where I open the back door and they come running as soon as they see me. I don't dare go out there without something to feed them!

I guess I'm the family chicken! :rotfl2:

I don't like the last of certain types of cereal because it's too fine, especially the granola types of cereal. All the good pieces are gone. I give it to my DH who likes to mix his cereal.

Rose, I don't have time to read all the replies so forgive me if someone already said this. But I solve this problem by telling DS or DH that they will not get another box of cereal to open until they finish what is left in the one they have open. The last remaining bits get eaten without any problems.

Nope......that doesn't work in my house! I've tried it. Funny thing is that my DH is just as bad as the kids! My DH loves HoneyComb cereal & it's not a cereal I would eat. Only my DH eats that one in fact. Anyway, here it gets pretty close to the last of the box & he's through with it (but if he sees our kids waste cereal, he goes bonkers). Each night I set the breakfast table (just to have one less thing to do in the morning) & each night I put out the box of HoneyComb at his place setting. Each morning, I'd find the box back on top of the fridge (that's where we keep our cereal boxes). We did this for a week until I just threw it away. So now he can't say anything when the kids leave cereal behind because he's just as guilty!

Hmm. I just pick out all of the big pieces and leave the tiny crumbs and throw out the box. But now, I buy Kashi Heart to Heart cereal and it doesn't have that end of the box crushed-upness. Darned if I know what it's made of... but theres no leftover stuff. :confused3

If there isn't enough left for a full bowl I just eat it along with a bagel or something. :)

I have some Frankenberries and ****erries and Batman cereal left in my pantry if you're interested.
