I was wondering if anyone did things to get the family ready for there vacation?!....Like disney movie nights or cooking a big disney meal?....I have a one year old and my husband and I am wanting to do little things to get them good and ready for our disney vacation....we will leave july 2 and come home july 11!

I have a daughter away at college and we plan our trips the week after she gets home. I send her homemade Disney cards counting down the days until vacation.

We bought a bunch of Disney figurines at our local dollar store. About 2 weeks before the trip, we put one on the kitchen table before the kids woke up. Every day they were so excited to run to the table and see who was waiting for them.

We have been doing Disney Movie nights. We do usually 2 a month when DF is off. Here's a link to the thread w/ pics, ideas, recipes, crafts, etc.

So far we have done Lady and the Tramp, Incredibles, Nemo, Alice in Wonderland, 3 Caballeros, and Up.
When I get to 30 days out we have a countdown calendar. I count 30 post its, separate the 30 from the post it packs countdown 30-1 on each one, I put it on a piece of heavy construction paper and decorate the construction paper with different disney stickers and write ____ days til our Disney Vacation. I also put the number 0 on the construction paper and put the post its over the number 0.
:)

Disney movie nights in our house as well. Plus about 3 nights a week, we will discuss our vacation planning to make sure everyone is on board with the ADR's, daily park visit planning, etc.

I made a countdown chain (think the paper chains you made as a kid) and my 2 year old LOVES taking a link off the chain every morning.

And he knows that when we get to the last one we get to go on "the big airplane".

I pack and turn into a crazy lady.

I also put the Disney playlist on the ipod in the car for about two months ahead of time.

Planning days---
We love planning! My DD10 works on our plans almost as much as I do. With our ADR window opening soon, we’ve been talking about character meals and our fav restaurants pretty much every day. Some days, we just sit around the computer, reading about the attractions we haven’t seen yet. Other days, we’ll take out our scrapbooks from previous trips and relive the vacations.

Disney movie nights---
My youngest is 6 and only knows the more recent movies. We are concentrating on the older movies this summer.

Disney game days---
We have several Disney games that are fun to play. Sunday is our weekly game day but getting closer to our trip, it becomes our DISNEY game day!

Disney dinner--
A few times this summer will be dinners dedicated to Disney. I use a mickey head cookie cutter on anything and everything! Last trip, I made a few meals using only Disney Magic food from Krogers.

Disney jammies---
I get the kids new Disney jammies a couple of weeks out. Instead of packing them and using them first at Disney, they wear them at home too. It adds to the excitement.

Countdown chain 30 days out

At our one month countdown, I put Disney stickers on all the containers and baggies in my sons school lunchbox everyday.

We have a countdown dry-erase board in our kitchen and we have been doing Disney movie nights every Friday night since Fall. 25 days and counting!! :goodvibes

We have 10 months to go so a long wait!

We watch Disney movies and I really want to watch all the Disney classics over this time. My kids are older 12-17 but I can get to watch them sometimes! My daughter for sure!

We have disney games and will get a few more. We have Disney Haunted Mansion Clue right now! It is fun.

We also do very large puzzles that are Disney themed. We have one on the go right now that is 750 pieces and is a lovely snow white watercolour. It has scrolled edges and is taking quite a while. We see how many we can do over the time leading up to leaving. Our collection will grow in 10 months I am sure!

Disney music comes out. There was a fabulous Disney music night that the BBC theatre did and Josh Grobin narrated. I had my uncle in Englad record it as you could only access it in the UK. It is wonderful and 2 full hours of narration and music!

We do movie nights and try to do movies that the kiddos haven't seen yet. I have a countdown chain. I am going to make their autograph books and I have started saving all the pages on the computer so about once a week they like to go through and look at all the pics and see who they are going to meet when they go. My oldest likes to flip through the planning book (she's only 4 so it is just the pics she likes). We watch some of the ride videos on youtube. They also like to watch the planning video.

We only told our kids in February that we were going from May 24-30. Starting March 1st, I put a poster board up in the kitchen with a calendar up with each of the months. I drew pictures of Disney characters on it, the Castle and each night before bed, we cross that day off. They get so excited as we get closer.

I also bought a couple kids Disney cookbooks and they each pick a recipe out of it and I make it each week. We read a Disney book.

My kids are all excited and ready to go.

Some are just not ready for the airplane ride :scared1:
