Do you do anything different on the lead up to your holiday?

I have a calender on the office wall with everyones leave on it. I have noticed that when the holiday is getting near instead on crossing the days off one whole week at a time I start crossing them off one day at a time.

It's six weeks to go and this week I've started the one day at a time countdown.:scratchin

I was wondering if anyone else did anything differantly the closer the holiday gets?

I become an obsessive list writer! About a week or so beforehand I usually start writing lists of all the things I have to do each day, I even put things on there like 'go to Asda' or 'put washing on' which you would think I would just remember! I have so many dreams about not being prepared (the most common is that I wake up on the day of travel and realise I haven't packed!) that the week before we go I make sure every minute of my day is planned to avoid any problems. :goodvibes

I'm exactly the same Jen, lots of lists and a list of the lists I need to do :rotfl2::rotfl2:

its weird really but we don't plan at all for what we are going to do while in Orlando..I have never done a 'day one we are going to MK' etc etc..but I am also a massive list maker before we go.

I also pack then re pack about 3 times and my hand luggage about 10 times to make sure that I have the tickets etc.

I'm the same! I'm having those dreams now! I've got to the airport to realise we've left our passports at home and couldn't get back in time :S

I'm almost a week away, eek! I'm just about to start making our day plan so I know exactly what to do every day. I have a lot more to do this holiday, getting a wedding licence, collecting villa keys, learning how to drive over there, directions to cocoa beach, collecting a photopass+ card rather than just finding a photograph etc so I'm panicking I'll forget something we need to do!

Theresa has the packing dream as well. She puts everything in then turns around and the cases are empty again.:scared1:

I constantly pack and then re pack our suitcases as im convinced ive forgotten stuff and make a million lists(which i always seem to loose) and drive all my co workers crazy with my daily countdown at register time lol

I could have written this myself Rachel .... this is exactly what I am like .. plus I annoy the whole world with countdowns on Facebook :rotfl2:

I was jumping at the school gates today because it's my SDD day and before I'd even said anything everyone mentioned how many days I had left because of my annoying fb countdowns! Lmao!

Just crossed another one off. :goodvibes

In the run up we'd written our schedule in MS Excel and downloaded all the touring plans which a few weeks before I then converted them all to PDF's and imported them into Dropbox and iBook reader so I could take my iPhone to the parks and access all the documents online or not.

Then whilst waiting for things to print at work or waiting for a meeting I could quickly glance at any of the documents with a smile knowing it was getting closer every day.

Sounds technical but to be honest we switched our schedule around all the time and loosely stuck to a loose schedule depending on our mood! Schedule was a good base though. We overestimated the time it would do to do things so always had free time in the afternoon.

We also had a chalk countdown on the front door wall which went from weeks to days as it got closer.

Now we're back it's difficult to even look at the photos without a pang... We've already decided we're doing 3 weeks in 2014!

I refuse to let myself check or repack the suitcases as I know I will drive myself mad! I have a completely itemised packing list and tick off as I go, the only thing I check is passports and money :goodvibes

I'm so sad that I get excited by the list making! I love writing the packing list as it feels like the start of the holiday, its like a treat I look forward to!

T and I had a long chat about our lists last night, we are soooo sad. ;)

Ours are packing lists, things to buy lists and things to do lists. :goodvibes

One year nobody took a watch and we ended up buying one, so a watch is now on the list.

Do you have any unusual items on your lists at all?

Just crossed yesterday off the calender. :woohoo:

Another one who can't survive without lists, even the dogs have their own list for their hotel aka kennels. :rotfl2:

This time I've got woolly hats on our list.

I always need to do a major clean/tidy up of the house and finish off any outstanding odd-jobs before we go as I hate the thought of coming back to anything less than perfect. DH likes the clean and tidy bit (I've told him the solution if he wants a permanently tidy house is to book more holidays) but he's not very keen on the odd-job bit. :rotfl:

I have the same three lists :goodvibes I don't think I pack anything unusual, sometimes we take t-bags and marmite because you can't buy them there.

I always try to make sure the house it tidy as well, last year we only finished moving the day we went on holiday and so our house was full of unpacked boxes and it was just horrible coming back to it :upsidedow

I'm a list, list, list person :goodvibes Everyone in the family has one (don't have to worry about the cats cause they stay at home and friends feed them)

I've started annoying people on FB already and I've got loads of time to go, we don't do a day to day plan as we go where we feel we want to.

I can't live without taking my pins :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We are now playing the two weeks today game......................Two weeks today we will be at Key Largo and visiting John Pennekamp National Park.:thumbsup2
