DO YOU COOK IN YOUR ROOM??

I have room cooked a lot in my life. Not in a Disney room (yet) because we only stay on property during a free dining promotion. Keep in mind that we drive, so that is much easier. We precook easy things; lasagna, chicken casseroles, etc then freeze them into meal portions and microwave them when we needed them. I have also taken an electric skillet to for eggs, french toast, easy stuff.

It isn't really a matter of being cheap or not being able to afford the vacation. a lot of it is convenience. We travel a lot for gym meets and festivals. Sometimes you are worn out, don't want fast food, and just want to go to your room. Plus I am a fantastic cook :-)

We always get at least a one bedroom with a full kitchen and washer dryer. I Mske scrambled eggs every morning for my husband and the kids and I have fruit and cereal. Since we don't go to parks much I may also make lunch sandwiches and tske to pool. Or we buy lunch at pool. I may also cook a simple dinner like spaghetti or chicken once or twice out of 10 days. Otherwise we eat dinner out.

Did you know you can make a grilled cheese sandwich with aluminum foil and the iron provided in your room? It takes practice. However, no, I don't cook in my room except to warm up leftovers from the previous night's dinner.

Yes I was thinking on practising at home to see if I can do it. So do you hold the iron and put the sandwich on top of put the iron on top and flatten the sandwich

My wife thinks it's weird that people cook in their room on vacation. She says you can't afford to go on vacation and not make food in the room stay home.

Set the iron to the highest setting (cotton or linen), wrap your pre-buttered sandwich in foil, put the iron onto it (you don't need to squish). Leave for about 30-45 seconds, check after 30 by opening up the foil. Repeat on the other side.

I can afford to go on vacation and not cook anything in my room BUT,
I enjoy having the convenience of having the option of making myself a meal or snack
when I want and not when a restaurant is open. For me eating fast food all the time is just unhealthy.
I rope drop and appreciate making some toast, coffee and yogurt/fruit in the mornings.
We stay at DVC resorts so we also enjoy using the outdoor grills. I like mixing up fresh dip and munchies to take to the pool.

I think that's ridiculous. We cook in our villa all the time (there is a kitchen). Eating out three times a day is just tedious, so I always make breakfast (bacon and eggs, bagels etc). The exception to that was when we stayed at Bay Lake Tower, as everyone really liked The Wave buffet. I make a few dinners, too. Eating out at Disney means crowds and waits, even with an ADR. We are not up for it every night, and it's one reason we always get a kitchen.

If you have a kitchen that is different. I'm talking about cooking in a hotel room with no kitchen

In rooms that have just a microwave and mini fridge, I will "cook", but that means just heating up food in the microwave.

When we stay in a condo or room that has a mini or full kitchen, we usually cook.

The next time we go to Disney, we're going to have at least a half or full day as a down day between arrival and when we go to the parks. My wife and I are planning on doing a lot of cooking and freezing meals that we can eat for supper each night after we get back from the park. We're also going to hit the local Wal Mart and Costco and pick up meals that can be quickly cooked, like take & bake pizzas for example.

..and PLEASE make sure to thoroughly clean the iron (and ironing board if you use it) after you are done. The next person doesn't want the grease from your grilled cheese sandwich on the nice outfit they brought for going out to dinner.

This reminds me of an episode of Andy Griffith when Barney fife was renting a room from that old lady and he was cooking on a hot plate and she kicked him out.
