Do you contribute to political campaigns? If you do contribute, why and which ones- local, state, federal, presidential...? If you don't contribute, why not?
DH and I don't make political contributions to anyone. We vote and we contribute money to charities but political campaigns are just organizations that we believe don't need our financial support. My ILs are upset with us because we don't want to contribute to a family member's political campaign. Our attitude is if he wants to run for political office, he can pay for it himself. I understand that some politicians don't have the resources to self-finance (our relative does). I wouldn't want to see political offices be sold to the highest bidder, but it seems that political contributions cause the price of public office to escalate. If one sides raises money, then the other side needs to match it. A $500,000-$1 million congressional campaign just seems like a poor use of resources to me.
