Valentines a holiday? I am sick and tired of people saying it is a holiday, to me it's a nothing day, I don't have a guy in my life so why in Gods name would I celebrate it:D

I'm with you Gail!!! VD is not a holiday in my mind, whether I have an SO or not.

I do have Valentines in my life. But every day to me is Valentine's Day. What do I celebrate today? It is my favorite cousin's Birthday! She's 28 today. Happy birthday Nikki!:Pinkbounc

Not a holiday per se, in my mind, but a day set aside to remember those we love, if there are those, and to make some additional, outward expression of same, over and above our day-to-day routine expressions. Therefore, cards, flowers, candy, extra nice dinners, etc. I have given Lady M flowers every year I have known her, since 1969, along with a nice card. Tonight we are having a special dinner I will pick up later. Just a day for expressions of love, and to and between children also.

A holiday for me? No. Just an extra special day.

My thoughts, exactly, Dan.:D I also always buy flowers and a couple of little gifts for my Mom and Dad.

I agree with you 100%. 6 more hours and this day will be over.;)

I do agree with Dan as well. I don't do any spectacular for it and don't excpect a lot back, but I do think it is a good day to show those you love how much you appreciate them. I just got back from dinner with my husband and my dad. It was a great way to spend the day :)

I don't consider it a holiday but like other's have said just a day to do something extra special for the person you love. I treat the people I love special every day but it's always nice to get/give a little something extra. :)

It does make me a little sad since I don't have anyone in my life but I just tried to share some extra love with friends and family today.

It is kind of a bummer when you don’t have someone special to share it with. Before I broke up with my long-time boyfriend, I used to enjoy it – very much. Now, it just seems to emphasize the fact that I’m alone, and I try to pretend it’s just another day. It’s not easy, though, because I work at a reception desk and I received flowers all day long that weren’t for me!

I consider it a holiday of sorts. It's definately a day people recognize. My brother is born the day after Valentine's Day. If it was just a regular day, I guess I'd have to say he was born the day after February 14th.;)

I think we all need a day to remind ourselves to reach out to those we love and care about to let them know we love and care about them. If it's February 14th, March 3rd or whatever day-sometimes it's just nice to be appreciated, or even better-to show someone you appreciate them. Having a specific day where it's "ok" to reach out is a nice nudge sometimes.

For those that felt unappreciated today, {{hugs}}, and pm me your address and I'll send you a Happy March 3rd card.;)

What the heck is March 3rd (or did you just make that up)????

honeywolf7, come on, you don't know what March 3rd is?

Pssst, Browneyes, what is March 3rd? LOL:D

I have celebrated it more in the last 5 years than I ever have because I had the biggest 10lb 3 oz valentine placed in my arms

that has been better than any chocolate, card or diamonds that I could have received. I've been having a love affair with her ever since.

I consider Valentine's Day a holiday. However, it's not really anything I've ever really celebrated beyond the elementary school classroom - other than when I had boyfriends who felt obligated. DH and I don't really do much for it other than say "Happy Valentine's Day".

That said, since I went from teaching to having kids, I've pretty much celebrated every year. I love the little cards kids exchange and making the card holders.
