It's always been Table Tennis to me. :)

We kept hearing someone say "ping pong" over the tannoy in Tenerife, Canary Islands and  as it sounds wrong to us!

Ping Pong is a trademark of Indian Industries, Inc and is only sold through Sears. I guess it's like calling a cola flavored soda a COke or the act of making copies, Xeroxing.

I've always heard it called ping pong, this is the first I've heard of table tennis.

No, no! Beirut is filling up each side of the table with cups of beer and lobbing ping pong balls over the net into the cups (sort of a ping pong artillery... hence, Beirut). At least that's the way it was when I was in college.

It is ping pong, plain and simple. And slapping a fancy respectable sounding name on it will not change that fact! :p

You say Beirut, we said Beer Pong. :) :)

Bottom line... :drinking1

On a note actually related to the topic at hand, table tennis strikes me as a game that one has to play in a polo shirt and khaki shorts. Always been ping pong to me!

Yep! Glad we weren't the only ones to call it Beirut! (and thsnks for the correct spelling!)

we didn't have nets though...heck, we used crappy pieces of plywood as our "table"...which after spilling many many times got pretty warped! hehehe

I used to be pretty good at that too...haven't played in AGES

Oh sure, everyone was good until they played for a little while ;)

Wasn't that the object? :smooth:

Quarters anyone?

There was an object?!? No wonder I always lost!

How about swimwear? ;)

We only seem to play when we're on our holidays in Europe, alot of the tables are located near the pool area! :sunny:

Oh yes, I don't own a polo shirt! :p :p :p

Beirut Pong!!!

Swimwear is appropriate for Beirut (surely there is no dress code for that) or just plain ole Ping Pong.

I tried to play with my daughter on our Disney cruise in May (ping pong, not Beirut! :p ) but the breeze from going at 20 knots kinda makes it a challenge.
