Do you buy/use gift cards?

I use Disney Gift Cards for nearly everything Disney related. DVC Dues? Gift Cards. Passes? Gift Cards. Food at WDW? Gift Cards. Charging back to my resort room? Balance paid in Gift Cards the night before checkout. I bought probably $4,000 worth of Gift Cards last year and saved about an average of 12% on them.

Here is a thread all about Disney Cards. The first page always has updated information.

FWIW, I have had DGCs that did not have the funds on them. I always check them as soon as I get them. I had $1000 worth of DGCs purchased from a place where other people had good experiences from. I did not. The cards were OK when I received them but a couple months later the card had been voided by Disney. I filed a claim against my credit card since it had taken the company 50 days to fill an order when they said it would take 30 days. I didn't trust them to make things right. Another time, BJs made an honest mistake a couple of my cards had not been activated. I called them and they sent me new cards.

We use gift cards a lot. Bought several Disney in 2021 for our trip and never had any issues. When my husband retired in May he got so many miscellaneous gift cards. He had about a 3” stack of them. Still haven’t used them all yet but we haven’t had any issues with any of them either.

I hate gift cards. Especially ones that are to a specific store. My wife got a $250 Disney gift card when she retired and it may be years before we use it. I got Visa gift cards as gifts when I retired and they are a pain to use.

You can get cash or trade the card for a different one.

I plugged in a $250 Disney gift card and they will give you $210 cash or you can trade for other gift cards at a slightly better rate.

65 years as a Disney-a-holic, not much left to buy. How many Mickey's can you buy?
Food, drinks, tickets at DL?
Heck - you could even use it to purchase gifts from shopdisney.com for holidays/birthdays...Halloween costumes for the grandkids? Christmas Ornaments? Movies/books. Or as kdonnel mentioned above, trade it in for $$$.

OR, if you don't think you are going to use it...give it away to a family member that can/will use it. Or donate it to Make a Wish or a similar charity. Or maybe to Toys for Tots or something like that - I don't doubt one of those type of organizations can make good use of it.

Not brave enough yet to do to DL. My wife did attempt to find gifts on shop disney but nothing there she liked.
LOL, the LAST thing we need are more Disney Christmas ornaments. We are slowly trying to thin out our Christmas ornaments....again, how many Mickey, Minnie, Baby Mickey, Baby Minnie, Disneyland, Millificent ornaments can you put on one tree. Didn't know we could trade it for cash. With no income, WE could sure use the cash.

I buy a Disney Gift Card prior to a trip, to use for mobile orders instead of a credit card. I haven’t had any issues so far, but the money is only on the card a short time. I don’t buy it months in advance or anything.

Strangely enough, the only time I've ever gotten a Disney gift card was at Disneyland. I put on the minimum $5 and almost immediately spent it. My kid liked the design and it was awkward asking for it for free, although I think my wife has asked for something similar.

I don't get GC's very much, so I don't use them very much. Personally, I have never run into any issues when redeeming.

My step-daughter did have a problem w/an Amazon GC. Some kind of numbers or code got damaged when scratching off the back, every time you type in the info or something that looks like the info, it comes back as invalid. I have heard if you take something like that back to where you bought it with the receipt, they might be able to do something. However, nobody has any idea what happened to the receipt AND she waited a couple years to try to use it. Thankfully it was only like $25.

Maybe save the gift card until this coming holiday season, then use it to buy gifts for Toys For Tots online at ShopDisney.com. There are toys which are specifically labeled for Toys For Tots, so the shopping is easy. So much more convenient to shop for and donate the toys online. $250 could buy quite a few nice toys.

I’ll buy gift cards occasionally for others as a gift, and I’ll eventually use them if they are gifted to me. But I don’t specifically buy them for myself to use.

There was a local news report last year about gift card scammers and ways they empty your gift card. Apparently it’s on the rise.

I use tons of gift cards. I buy them for places we are going to be going at Kroger to get the fuel points. I buy a Disney gift card every week as part of my regular grocery shopping and then when we go to Disney, I already have all our spending money.

I don't do it for Disney. I put everything on credit cards for the points.

I give and receive gift cards for Christmas, birthdays, etc.

I don’t buy them unless it’s been specifically requested and I’m never too excited when I receive one. It’s generally only from people who don’t know me very well and are trying to make a nice gesture, so I do appreciate that part. :goodvibes

I’ve received them to specific stores that I will never shop in, or in amounts too small to actually buy anything without a big top-up. Those I quietly regift to someone who will actually use it.

The elementary my girls went to participates in a gift card fundraising program so I use them a lot because it is a way to support the school at no cost to me. I've never had a problem with security or activation on the cards I've bought through the program, and now a lot of the national brands I commonly buy (Disney, Delta, Barnes & Noble, etc) have digital cards available so I can buy exactly the denominations I need immediately before the purchase that I plan to use them for.
