Do you bring a blow up bed or buy one there?

In the spring when we go to WDW we are debating on where to stay. My boys will not sleep together and so we need an extra bed. We could stay at POR and get a trundle or stay at another moderate and rent a bed for $16 a night, or I have read, some people bring a blow up bed. This sounds like a good idea. For those of you who have used them, do you buy at wallmart/target when you get there or do you bring with you. Are they hard to take home when you are done. Sometimes getting the air out of an air mattress can be hard.

Are you flying or driving? We have 4 of the twin aerobeds that we got at Linens and Things. They are NOT cheap, we paid about 80$ a piece on sale for them. We use them for sleepovers and trips (my kids also do not like to share beds.) They have a built in pump to blow them up and are relatively easy to deflate. They come with a nice carrying case, however, they are pretty big, bulky, and heavy. We seldom need all 4 though, and we usually drive our suburban. I would not want to spend vacation time driving around looking for one to buy, and it is not a "throw away when you are done" thing. I would probably get the trundle if I were you, unless you will have need for an aerobed in the future and have no trouble taking it with you/bringing it home. JMHO.

Wanted to add, we are DVC and always get the 2 bedroom/8 person units. We are not squeezing in more than the occupancy allows. However, as our kids have gotten older, they do not want to share beds. They each have their own room at home. The aerobeds are nice and comfy. You could maybe get something cheaper/smaller.

My kids who won't sleep together have always done fine with sleeping bags. They think it's an adventure. Easy to roll up in the morning to get them out of the way and they don't take a lot of room in the van. We bring along old sheets to put under them to protect them from any dirt on the floor.

too bad your kids won't share a bed. we sometimes put all three DD's (14, 12, and 9) in a king bed and then DH and i share the pull out sofa in "suite" type hotels.

It's just too much $$ for the extra rollaway bed per night on a multi-day vacation.

when we do get a room with 2 doubles or queens, we take our air mattress with us on vacation. it's easier to do when we drive, but we'd done it for flying, too. we just put it in it's original box (how we store it at home) inside another suitcase. it usually gets picked to be searched, so we don't have anything else of much consequence in the bag.

we paid $40 for it, but that was over 10 years ago. i don't know what they go for now. ours is not the fancy kind with the built in pump--we blow it up with a hair dryer set on cool air. it says it's queen-size, but our full-sized fitted sheets fit it just fine. most hotels will also let you have an additional set of sheets brought to your room if you ask for them.

even if you did leave it behind, it'll probably be less expensive than renting a rollaway if your staying for 4 or more nights. then you'd have the extra suitcase for souvenirs!

good luck
