I know what you mean, with the now guaranteed boardwalk view villas, it is a dilemma for many, at booking, if the coveted boardwalk view is available. So now what I do is both. I will ask what is available. If only preferred view is available and they have a boardwalk view villa, I grab it faster than a NY minute! But if there are standard view villas available then I weigh the trip: how long is the trip, are we there for a special occasion, what size villa are we getting, etc.
I love the fact that BWV now has guaranteed boardwalk views, what a huge plus for BWV owners! The only room views at WDW that I have ever had that can even begin to compete with a boardwalk view is a water view at YC, a safari view at AKL and a MK view room at one of the MK resorts. Considering the pt difference for a boardwalk view villa--if you can get it-- vs a standard view villa is very little per night. I personally think they are well worth it!
One thing to note though, is for parties that like to go to bed or have children that go to bed before 10-11 PM; they may hear some boardwalk activity and Illumination fireworks/music with the balcony doors closed and will definitly hear it with the balcony doors open. After 11 PM, BWV is usually very quiet. Early morning to late afternoon are also very quiet times for the boardwalk. The activity on the boardwalk is very similiar to that of a real boardwalk: from early evening to about 11 PM the boardwalk comes alive and then it basically is very quiet. Occasionally you will hear a group leaving one of the clubs but it is not a regular happening at all. This is Disney after all--not the real Atlantic City LOL!!
