Do you believe in ghosts/spirits? I was looking at some of my pictures of my wedding and there are some "orbs" that appear on my fathers right shoulder when we were at the top of the stairs (getting ready to walk down the isle)..I know they are my grandmothers...but I just want to get what everyone else feels about them!!

Most definitely!

Halloween 09 we went across the street to the cemetary (yes, we live across the street from a cemetary where some of the graves date back to Revolutionary times :scared1:) and took random pictures. There were orbs all over the place, perfectly round, some bigger than others, in places where there was no reasonable explanation for lights.

Yes, I believe that there is something out there that we can't see or explain. Whether they are actual ghosts or demons is up for debate.

I don't buy into orbs though. It is almost always dust that is floating around or light reflection.

this. i don't believe we are left in limbo when we die. but i do believe that people do have experiences. i just don't believe they are with the spirits of people who have died.

I do believe there are many things we do not understand and ghosts are among them. The jury is still out on whether orbs should be considered as spirits. Many are dust or bugs. The general consensus is that those that aren't dust or bugs are a form of energy, possibly related to spirits.

There are a LOT of older threads on this here on the DIS.....find the one with the ghost who sent an IM on the computer to his friend! :hippie: Never did hear a follow up on that one.

I swear my parents lived in a "haunted house" for a time. Weird things would happen (radios turning on by themselves, sounds of an animal or something on the ceiling when no one else was there). My sister actually saw a ghost - it was a woman in a long dress.

My sister's good friend moved into a new house. She kept having a dream about a little boy coming to her and crying and she would comfort him. She did some research on the house and found out a little boy was murdered there.:scared1:

Most of the time things on camera are not anything other worldly but dust, light reflecting, etc.

Doesn't mean your grandmother was present at your wedding though.

Nope. When you're dead, you're dead. End of story.

The orbs are generally reflections from dust particles.

The whole orbs thing makes me laugh!

It's just fun to say: OOOORBS!

But actually, while I don't take any particular stand on ghosts, I do not believe that orbs are real evidence of paranormal presence.

The American Ghost Society has a good article on it, written by a true believer:

I'm not sure I believe in 'ghosts' per se, but I do believe in 'something'. I've experienced some weird things happening that make no logical or eartly sense. I do think there are evil forces out there, as well as positive forces, that we cannot see.

I do believe in the possibility of the paranormal. I believe there are things in this world that can not, as of yet, be explained. I have personally had experiences and know people I trust that have had experiences.

I currently do not belong with a paranormal group, though I once did. I still do a lot of work at debunking photographs, video, and EVPs and I still do a lot of research.

That said, I have NEVER seen an orb picture that can not be explained... and I have seen more then my fair share of orbs. Personally, to me, orbs are one of the weakest forms of "evidence" out there.

I do believe in ghosts. Last summer my family was in Savannah in a supposedly haunted building. I took a picture of my sons and there was an "orb" in the picture. We didn't see anything in the room. It was kinda cool, although I'm sure there is a better explanation.

I'm a believer but I have my doubts about orbs. I think that they're at least usually dust.
