This question popped into my head tonight when I think of dd and how she talks about having talked to her grandfather and great grandmother and the conversations they've had. They both passed away shortly before dd was born.

I also remember dh and his sister talking at the kitchen table years ago when their brother passed away. They both had a "dream" where there brother came to them and said the exact same thing to both.

Dmil, dsil, and dh have all stated that they have had "visits" and eerie encounters... I have not. Dh is terrified of the movie Poltergeist and to this day refuse to watch it.

So I'm curious, do you believe in ghosts? Do you have a ghost story to share?

I do. I haven't settled on exactly what they are, but I'm inclined to think we all live and pass into in different dimensions, some closer than others. I'll let you know for sure when the time comes. ;)

I do.

My grandparents house has something there. Not sure what but they see shadows moving when they shouldn't (and I mean in the shape of people) and when a new person comes over, usually a women, they'll smell a strong scent of flowers that disappears after a second.

My mum has had something breathe into her ear there also. She thought it was my dad and turned around to smack him for scaring her and there was no one there. She also heard my grandmother calling her name five minutes after both my grandparents left.

I don't. I believe in the afterlife but think once you die the soul goes where it goes instantaneously. It doesn't hang out on Earth knocking over vases. I also don't think any relatives that have died can "look in on us". I think the afterlife is completely separated from this world.

Of course I could be dead wrong, we all find out eventually.

I believe, also. I was very close with my grandmother. She lived with us for a period of time before she passed. I was 15.

Back in my early 20's I was going through a pretty rough time, finding myself, etc. One night while I was laying in bed, the room became very dark and my body felt very heavy, as if I couldn't move. I then heard my grandmother's voice in my ear. She said "everything is going to be okay" - it was very real, and just what I needed.

Then, just before my wedding last summer, my mother and I were at my house. We went into the spare bedroom where all of my miscellaneous wedding planning books, supplies, decorations, etc. were - just to take "inventory". We were kind of breezing in and out, moving quickly, when we both stopped and just looked at eachother...and then we picked up and continued what we were doing. About 5 minutes later, I said to my mother "did you smell that?"..and without skipping a beat she said "it was your grandmother's perfume - it smelled just like her in here for a moment". We tried like heck to recreate the smell, sniffed around everything like a couple of hounds but came up with nothing. I felt like she was telling both me and my mom that she was with us through the wedding plans "overseeing" everything. :cloud9:

I've got tales that would give ya goose bumps. But for now all I will say is this:You know that very cold feeling you get walking past a certain place, did you ever seen a thing cross in front of you and you blame it on something in your eye's?Or that feeling you are bieng watched?

Well trust me,you are!!!!!

Nope. When you're dead, you're dead.

My great uncles had lots of ghost stories about the old apartment building where they lived, but they were loons.

Hmmm...this happens in my house...built in 1922. Most of my family *swear* they see and hear things in this house but I just roll my eyes  when they start up with their latest "encounters" here.

I'm not a believer but DH and I do have to admit feeling like we're watched, especially when we first moved in here 23 years ago. And we both kept thinking we saw someone out of the corner of our eye, but soon as we turned it was gone. I've read about this and there's a term for it that I can't recall, so I just chalked it up to that.

And yes, there is a place in our dining room that has a chilly spot...it's also where my step daughter insists she sees things. I still don't believe, I think it's imaginations running wild. This step daughter has taken pictures in an attempt to capture "something" on film to prove to her dad and me that something is going on here. She sees things in the pics that get her excited but we see nothing other than what was expected. She also uses a recorder throughout the house and again *swears* she hears voices from "beyond". :sad2:

Does your house have the same electrical systems/copper wiring?
I'm asking because bad wiring gives off high EMFs. Exposure to these high EMFs can cause "EMF Hypersensitivity" which would give someone the feeling of being watched.

If I'm understanding you correctly, yes...we do have the same electrical system and wiring we had when we moved in 23 years ago. Perhaps it's the EMF's I read about causing this particular feeling. Off to research again.

I do but not in the true sense of say, a Casper.

I think that some people just have so much life or purpose, it imprints it onto things. Much like a negative of a photograph.

I believe in ghosts. I have seen and heard things and I'm pretty practical. The events weren't particularly exciting, at least not to me.

I believe the human mind is a miraculous thing, and can perceive not only what is actually there, but also synthesize all manner of useful and helpful aspects.

I can't read this at 3:30am - I won't sleep after reading the other posters' stories.

To answer your question: yes, I think that the departed can communicate with us for at least a short time after they pass. I once had a lovely tea in my dreams with DH's aunt who had passed a few weeks earlier. It was so real, I could feel her hugging me.

I awoke in tears, feeling that I had actually "visited" with her to say goodbye.

Not really..but I am going to a hotel in November that is haunted. I am super excited because I want to see if anything happens like previous guests have stated.

I do not.

BTW: What ever happened to the person on the board who received an IM from her dead friend?
