Do you bag?

I prefer to bag my own. I feel lucky if I get up to the counter and there is no bagger. If one comes along while I am bagging and offers to bag for me, I usually tell them, Im all set.

I would bag my own if I could but I have a 15 month old who wants to jump from the cart (& his nickname is Houdini because he can wiggle out of any belt) & normally I'm trying to write out a check...so I'm just too busy to bag! :teeth:

I prefer to bag my own...like all the refrigerated stuff together and don't like the bread squished. However, some grocery stores have the cashier bag as they are checking out (scan and bag).

I have cloth bags that I bring shopping with me and except for fresh meat (which I let them put in plastic bags) I bag all the rest of my groceries. I hate it when they bag my groceries. Our store scans and bags but for me they put them on the counter in the back. I pack my groceries according to where they have to go as I have a pantry in the basement. That way when I get home I put the bags where they need to be unpacked. So much easier. Also that way my bread is on top. I also hate to have plastic bags around so only get them when I really need them.

The craziest thing I've ever seen was while I was living in CT. There was a grocery store where you boxed your own grocery's in boxes that were just lying around on a shelf....it drove me crazy!!! My FIL loved it because it was so much cheaper.

I do my weekly (Weekly? Sometimes I'm there almost daily...) shopping at the same two stores; Trucchi's and Shaw's. Both of these stores usually have baggers at every check out and they obviously train them on how to bag properly, meaning that they put the frozen items all together, bread and eggs in one bag, meat is never in the same bag with anything else, etc. I've never had a problem with the way the groceries are bagged.

I only bag groceries myself if there happens to be no bagger, because normally by the time I've finished loading all of my groceries onto the counter, they are being bagged immediately and put back into my cart, anyway.

I have never seen a store where they want you to bag your own groceries, I don't think there are any around here.

DH always bags...he can't help himself he worked his way through high school and college at a grocery store!! DS does the same, although his time in the grocery business was very short lived!

At least when they bag I know the bread won't end up under the jar of peanut butter!!

:D

I shop at a store that prides itself on great customer service (Ukrop's.)

Once during a very busy time (I think it was Christmas Eve) they were extremely busy, and there was nobody there to do the bagging so I started to...and an employee came running over and said "please, let me do that for you!" So...I let him!

At another store I frequent (Giant) they bag as they ring it up, so there isn't even a chance for the customer to help bagging the groceries...even if they wanted to.

Both my teenagers are baggers at the local super-store (no it's not WalMart). They both went through training on how to bag properly and, if they are working, I usually go through their lanes. Otherwise, the other baggers do a pretty good job and there are usually baggers at each lane. I do, however, ALWAYS unload with refrigerator/frozen items first/together, then the heavy stuff and then chips and bread last. I'll grab the soda and milk once it's scanned and deposit it in the cart to help out the bagger (no need to bag those items).

Before this particular store opened, I'd go to another local super-store (no, not WalMart) and would sometimes be at a lane without a bagger. I had no problem bagging my own groceries because I didn't want to be just standing there watching my groceries get smashed as more and more came down the belt from the scanner!!!!

I don't have a problem doing a little manual labor, especially if I'm getting a good price on my groceries.
