I could swear I saw this thread, but can't find it. I think I might have been scrolling too fast and saw Binny's dog thread and Browneye's couch or sofa thread and got confused!

Anyway, We didn't allow our dog on the furniture for about a year and a half (except when she was on our lap). That went out the window - now she's everywhere. She even insists her head has to be on a pillow. The last two years when we went camping she slept in the dirt all day whenever we were in the campsite. This year we kept having to let her into the tent so she could lie down!

On the couch? Heck, they sleep on the bed! :p It wasn't too bad when it was just Sammy (black lab, 75 lbs) but now we have Lilly (yellow lab pup, 60lbs at 7 months! ) too! We actually took one of those over sized ottomans and put it at the end of our king-size bed to have enough room. We hope eventually that Lilly will sleep with DD, once she is a bit more settled and not as likely to chew up everything in sight (the pupply, not DD ;) ) Basically, they have the run of the informal part of the house. We have gates to keep them out of the living room/dining room but other than that, oh well, I just vaccum a lot!

I had to laugh about your pup needing a pillow. If there is something on "Sam's " couch, she will stand and stare at you until you get up and move the offending article and once you do, she will jump up and settle in with a very distinct "hurrumph"! Spoiled rotten!

Mine sit wherever they want to sit. They are spoiled rotten. Actually, the outside dog is a spaniel/chow mix and he is so hairy that he isn't allowed on the furniture, but the bichons sleep with us, under the covers part of the time.

We don't have a dog, but our cats sometimes allow us to use the furniture...

Dog, cats, kids.... I even let Gene on the couch. :teeth:

Or the bed...

Speaking of pillows - on the camping trip one night she apparently slept horizontally between us right on our pillows. I got the face end. DH was a little freaked when he woke up! At home she sleeps in a crate at night.

Nice kitty, Suite Disney!

Yup, if he wants to get up he is welcome.:)

Our dog is allowed on the couch too, but not on the bed - hie is far too big:p he is a German Shepherd, but think he is a person. He also thinks the cat is corn on the cob as he nibbles her with his front teeth at every opportunity.:p

Our puppy is not even let out of the kitchen yet. I hope that one day she'll be trained enough to have the run of the 1st floor but the way things are going with the housebreaking, I doubt it!

my wife gets mad if I move the dog off the couch so I could sit down

When we brought home our American Eskimo from a shelter, he didn't go on the furniture for the first couple of days. Once he got a little more comfortable, he wanted to but we just told him "no" and he never tried again. He does love to have a blanket to lay on. Lately he's decided he like to sleep under the kids beds.

My little one...37 pound Lab/Boxer gets on the sofa and the bed. But my 75 pound Flat-Coated Retriever doesn't. Doesn't seem fair! Once when I left the room, I peeked around the corner and found the Retriever on the sofa laying down. Ha! He jumped down quickly.

Oh yes, Murphy owns our house!! Just don't tell the bank!;) He does sleep on his own bed at night though. DH has a thing about him down by his feet, says he doesn't have enough room. But every now and then he makes it on to the bed.;) He loves to sleep with his head on a pillow also. I swear he thinks he human. Sometimes I'll find him sleeping on the floor with his head on his bed.:p He also thinks my end tables were specifically designed for him to see out the windows. Goofy dog!!!!
Ask my sister this question...TerriP. Her dogs WERE NOT allowed on the the couch or her new bed!;) Guess where the are now???? hehehe:rolleyes:

we put a blanket on the couch ......that way we didnt' say NO......she was in our water bed from the time she was six months old and found out she could take a flying leap........when she developed arthritis and cancer.....we put the water bed on the floor without the compartments there......and she could walk on and off......I would of done anything to keep her with us .......all those dalmatian sheddings is like no other....just the white hairs......we sure did love her.....a pet is like a family member......

Our terrier goes pretty much where she wants except on the beds. When we bought a new house and needed furniture, we bought a chair for her so she could jump up on the back of it and look out the window. After all, she is a westie watch dog and needs to bark all day to alert us. It is now her bed and she even likes to use a pillow.

Yep! Maggie, our Yorkie, sleeps in the bed with us. Milo, our Corgi, can't make the jump, but he loves his crate so he's happy sleeping there. We did recently have to buy a slipcover for our sofa...after years of dogs jumping on the sofa the little pulls here and there all of a sudden got bigger and we're not getting new furniture until we move.

On the couch, in my bed, where ever the 2 of them want to sleep. Thank goodness they are only 15 lbs each. Spoiled rotten but what the heck.

Right now the dog is on the couch and the cat is on the loveseat:D And they both sleep on our bed.
