Do you allow your children to stick out their tongue at you?

My mom had a hissy fit the first time she saw one of my girls do this to me.
We have rules regarding this and both girls follow it totally. We are allowed to stick out our tongues as long as no one is angry.
My mom didn't think the girls would be able to understand it and was upset with me because I allowed it.

Btw, my mom's been gone almost 10 years. This just popped into my head and I was curious.

What do you all think?

In all her 17 years, DD never stuck her tongue out at me. I really didn't think anyone did that anymore (haven't seen it in years by anyone).

If we are playing around, yes, we can stick our tongues out at each other. But, like you, we cannot if we are made at each other.

My kids get in lots of trouble if they stick their tongue out in general, now when they get older i'll probaly let it slide...

Boy, I probably shouldn't answer this..........Yes. We have certain "rules" about this, like you do. Never when you are angry, or a heated moment. Just for fun.

Now, I have to tell you that my dad and I used to totally freak people out because we would flip the bird to each other! My dad was always on the road and he would see me, honk his horn, flip me off, and I would return the greeting. For us, it was a joke and never meant the way people want to take it. We loved seeing the look on people's faces when they realized that father and daughter were using their middle fingers!

Nope...no, NONE, no tongue sticking out in my house - liquid soap cleared that one up quickly!!!! (Let's just say dd use to do this to me all the time when she didn't want to listen!).

Ours' is definitely when we are playing. For example, I'll grab my little one as she passes by and tickle her. As she gets away she'll stick her tongue out at me and laugh, especially if I missed.
Or I'll do it to my oldest when she starts in about how short I am. She's been taller than me since she was 11.

My house rule is no tongues sticking out -- unless your trying to catch snowflakes!!

Nope, we never did this when I was little, well....never more than once anyway. It never seemed to be an issue with my son.

It must be more of a little girl thing.

My 6yo ds just got punished for it this morning. He just called his dad to apologize, guess it was bothering him all day :)

Only when we are playing and purposefully making funny faces - otherwise, no.

We had our mouths washed out when we were kids if we did it. I don't ever remember fooling around with my parents. We had lots of fun, but never that kind of fooling around.

My kids were never allowed to do it in anger or defiance, but we fool around a lot! In fact, just yesterday DS (22) & I had lunch with friends yesterday & I stuck my tongue out at DS without thinking. Our friend said, "very mature" & laughed because he knows I'm not!

I should say that we're pretty close to these friends - sort of like family. We don't usually go around doing it in "public."

I'm trying to teach Jacob to stick his tongue out at me. :teeth:

I'm sure I won't allow it when he's older though, unless maybe just while we're playing around. If he got mad and stuck his tongue out at me, he'd quickly understand that he should never do that again.

<font color=navy>It's not something that we do in my family - even in jest, though we mess around a lot together (my two rascals and me).

The last time my dd stuck her tongue out at me, she was 3 years old. I had just scolded her, and she turned the corner to go to her room. All of a sudden my dad was shaking, and when I asked him what happened, he was cracking up and said that as soon as she had the wall between her & me, she stuck her tongue out as far as she could.

I went to her room, and sternly told her, "I SAW THAT." You shoulda seen the look on her face. :p :teeth: She never has stuck her tongue out at me since then, though I've told her that story. :)

Nope, not allowed. And to be honest, it's never been an issue. I'm more inclined to stop the whining and hounding that goes on.

we goof off alot in my house. and i stick my tongue out. so i cant very well tell DS not to. LOL
