Do we want to eat at Coral Reef?

My DD & I went our last trip last August, this time the family is going for my Birthday Dinner (notice the caps as if it were a holiday? lol) anyway, we loved it and cannot wait to bring DH & my DS'.

I love Chef Mickey's (we're going there too our first night, tradition) but I can't compare the two, they're completely different, maybe because one is buffet and the other sit down wait service.

Personally, I love them both. Wow, what a great help I am! lol :rotfl:

The differences in opinion are so funny! Our favorite meal last Sept was at Coral Reef. Delicious steaks (maybe that's the trick, don't eat seafood?) ... we thought they were much better than Le Cellier, which gets raves. And Chef Mickey's is so loved, but we ate there 4 trips ago and it was so unbelievably bad, we still won't go there.

I hope your daughter is excited and loves Coral Reef. :goodvibes I also hope she enjoys it from your table, not mine. I think people only get "irritated" when children are allowed to stand at the tank. There just is not room for that without intruding on the diners seated by the tank. Have a great trip!

thank you for the kind words, i hope she loves it too. I just think people need to stop and realize where they are; you're at disney world in a theme park...if you feel that people are irritating you by standing in on your dinner then there is nothing wrong with politely asking them to move. Sometimes children get excited(sometimes adults too) and aren't aware of such things as personal space. With that said I generally do not let my children wander during dinner either. It is a shame that the previous poster didn't just politely speak up as they could have enjoyed their dinner as well!

we have ADR's at Coral Reef for our 2nd night in Dec, and have the diver booked as well...can't wait:woohoo:

How do you get the diver "ordered"? How far in advance should this be done?

I am curious about the diver as well, I had heard about it but was not sure the steps / choices to make this happen

Thanks

Dawn

See this thread--http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1494565. You simply call the restaurant directly at 407-560-6856 to reach Debbi--who does most of these requests--and ask for the diver sign (BTW, you can also get a personalized menu done). If she doesn't anwer, leave a message stating your name, phone number, and your wish to have the diver sign and/or menu on what day. She usually returns her phone calls fairly quickly, but you might play phonetag for a while if you miss her call. You can also call Coral Reef's direct line--I believe it's in the Official Anniversary/Birthday Cake thread--and ask to speak to a manager. They will take care of you. HTH!

BTW, we are eating at Coral Reef our arrival night for the first time! My friends have always raved about it, so I'm excited to try it out! :woohoo:

we were there 2 years ago and my wife said the mahi was good but a little salty. I am not a seafood eater so I ordered steak and it was very good.

We are very excited to take my daughters there next month as I know my 3yr old is going to love the tank...hopefully she won't "irritate" somebody by being excited to see fish and sea turtles at DISNEY WORLD.

Please...don't misunderstand me. I know that little ones get excited, I have my own 13 y/o who has been there, done that. But, you have to understand that it's very crowded down there, by the tank. The tables are very close to each other. Although we got lucky and were seated at the very end of the row, we still had a group of 3 kids, literally hanging over our table as we tried to eat our dinner. The little girl's hair kept swishing on my dh's shoulder as she tried to wedge behind him. Add that to the man sitting directly behind my dh being of considerable size and, well, there just wasn't any extra room. And there sat these kids' parents, a level up from us, yelling down to them..."How do you like the turtles honey?" They didn't care if other guests were impacted at all.
So, please....allow your kids to have fun and enjoy the tank full of fish. But here's the thing. If they really, really have to see those sharks or turtles up close, then stop off in the Living Seas on the way out and check out the aquarium there...it's the exact same aquarium and they won't have to shove past other diners.

well, then there's no excuse for people just being inconsiderate in your case...unfortunately that happens anywhere. :(
