Do we really need long pants and sweatshirts for August?

Only if you like "personal saunas" :lmao: .

It's usually very hot at that time of year so bring your lightest and most comfortable clothes (including footwear). August and early September in Florida are tropical! :goodvibes

So FUNNY! :rotfl2:

Save the room in your suitcase for Disney goodies! If you find out while your down there you need a sweatshirt for restaurants, it is a good excuse to buy a Disney Sweatshirt!

As you have realized by all the answers, no you don't need them, but have to ask why would you think you would.

Maybe light sweater for inside cold restaurants and as someone said light weight pants are personal choice but definitely never a need for a sweatshirt, any shirt you where while here in August will become a "sweat" shirt. ;)

No you will not. But if you get cold in restaurants or if your kids do then I would say bring a lightweight jacket.

This is what I do for my youngest two, especially the middle one. He is always cold when we go to a restaurant. So I always, no matter the season no matter how hot and humid I bring him a jacket or sweatshirt.

Only if you're from a climate that makes 98 degree - 98% humidity seem chilly. Blistering heat, humidity that makes it hard to breathe.

Don't even THINK about wearing a sweatshirt and long pants at WDW in August unless you have a strong desire to check out the ER at Celebration Hospital.

The only time I need a sweatshirt is for the plane ride down and back. They keep the plane cold!

Our last 2 trips, and the next one Aug 15, the only one in our family to bring anything "long", has been my DW, who brings a light, long sleeve "something" for in the restaurants. This might be the only place that you might need anything long at Disney in August. It is "Africa hot" ! Have fun and good luck !! :thumbsup2

If you just want to take space up in your luggage you can bring it.

if you plan to do campfire movies, walking around Ft W, etc. you might think about light long pants to protect legs from mosquitos.

Original poster here! Thanks so much to some of you for making me look like an idiot

I only asked the question because I've seen quite a few posts recently from people who say things like "it can even feel chilly when the sun goes down" and "I came in soaking and was freezing", etc, etc. I have two small kids and I just want to be prepared when my husband says 'What, you didn't bring a jacket or sweatshirt for when they got cold???!" Couple that with the fact that we've never been to wDW at this time of year, and didn't know if it was ALWAYS stifling hot and humid or just sometimes.

I think I get the point now though!!

We are from NJ too. We were there last September and from our experience
last year I will not be bringing any form of pants, jeans capris, etc.
No longsleeve anything or Jackets. I deleted them off my list.

I am happy to be going from 9/26 to 9/5 also. My son starts 1st grade on the 6th. Cutting it close But I guess its better than taking him out of school the 3rd week like last year (for his birthday). The airfare was better leaving on a wed. to a wed. I wanted to go a day or 2 earlier but that's they way it goes.
See yoy around the world!

Thanks for the info Tink3Belle! I decided we'd better come home on the 4th and give my daughter (going into 4th Grade at a NEW school) a day to recover before going back! We got such a great airfare through continental - we don't get down there until 7 p.m. on the 1st day, but with a rate of $118 r/t, how could we argue!! I really am SO excited about this trip!!

I'm sorry if you felt like we were trying to make you look like an idiot. I don't think that was anyone's intentions, I know it wasn't mine. :(

It's just to those of us who have been during the time you are going know it can be downright nasty hot! I remember walking around Futureworld in Epcot thinking to myself what if I passed out from the heat--how many people would rush to my aid! Yes, it was that hot! When you start thinking in those terms, it's time to get to someplace cool ASAP or stop going when it's hot (which we try to do now!)

For your little ones, it couldn't hurt to bring a very light windbreaker or something along those lines for eating at indoor restaurants where it could be cool. Other than that, I figure I can always buy a sweatshirt in one of the gift shops if need be.

I always pack a sweatshirt. I get cold easily. There were a couple of times when it rained at night and I put it on.

I don't think anyone was trying to make you feel like an idiot. As a Floridian I often forget how cool and how early in the year it gets cool for those people living in areas with four actual seasons (as opposed to here where it is two seasons of warm and hot). I've had Northern friends ask about bundling their kids up on Halloween for MNSSHP and I have always found it odd because we try to find the lightest weight costume possible because of the heat and humidity and that is a full two months after you are going. The heat in Florida from July through mid-September can be hard to really explain to people that haven't experienced it, especially the humidity.

Pack cool, bring sunscreen, stay hydrated and enjoy. :goodvibes

I always pack a light sweater or hoodie for my kids and for me. The restaurants at night can get pretty chilly. It starts out feeling great because we are sweaty and hot, but after a bit, it starts to get too cold. I know--it sounds weird, huh?

We don't pack pants though.

Have fun!

If you plan on dinging at a Signature restaurant you might want to pack a pair of chino's, but otherwise, no long pants are needed.

I'm always cold, so I don't go anywhere without a lightweight sweater or long sleeved shirt, but that's really all you'll want or need. Sweatshirts? :lmao:

I always bring a jacket. Always.

I have a very light windbreaker that folds small enough to go in a sandwich bag, and DS has as similar one. We are always cold, and when DS gets cold he refuses to eat so it is a must for him in restaurants.

I will probably wear capris on the plane, but I won't bring any jeans.:)

We just returned and it was Hot! Several of the restaurants were cold. We had to buy shirt for one of the girls (wearing tanktop) while dining at Kona.
So you definitely want to pack light weight jacket or sweater. With the new changes in dining wear, you can now just wear dress shorts, so no need for long pants. I think you start getting used to the heat and the air conditioning seems colder. RFC in DD was also very cold!
Have a great trip & drink lots of fluids!
