Do we need to have a plan for meals, or can we wing it?

We are used to WDW where every meal must be carefully planned or you will be wandering around looking for a decent quick service place without a giant line. Is US/IOA the same or is it possible just to get hungry when you are hungry and then head to a restaurant (quick service or sit-down)that sounds like a good place to eat? I absolutely HATE having to plan my meals out ahead of time.

We are going mid-March if that is helpful at all.

Mid March is very busy. If you just eat at off-hours you should be okay though.

Definitely eat at off times if you don’t like lines. And check out the mobile ordering options on the app.

One thing we've found to be helpful is hitting a sit down at lunch (get there around 11:30) and a quick service at dinner. Especially for the HP restaurants, the lines are substantially lower that way. We also don't wait that long for Toothsomes going at lunch rather than dinner. We do have reservations for Mythos and Margaritaville since they're must dos for the kids and can be busier. But we're also a family of 5 so a little harder for us to get seated.
