Neither DFI or I carry cash on us most of the time. So I just wondered if there are some places in the parks that don't accept cards or have minumum purchase requirements? I mean outside of tips for the TS restaurants, I wasn't sure if we need it for spending money too.

If I remember correctly, some of the small cart type vendors only take cash. Although, I could be wrong - since now, because of the dining plan they need to be able to take room cards.

It's always good to have a little cash though - just in case!

There are a few places that will only accept cash. I would think $20 on you would be enough just in case.

Virtually everyone at the parks and resorts take the room key or some type of plastic for payment, but it can be nice to have a few dollars in your pocket too. If you're buying glow necklaces from a cart vendor, they're generally not set up to take cards. I dont' think all of the ice cream carts are set for plastic either. I'm one of those people who always needs to have SOME cash on me! I'm always worried that I'll get stranded somewhere where plastic isn't used and ONLY cash is accepted. I also find that I don't spend as quickly or as much when I carry cash as I do when I carry only cards. So if you're trying to maintain the semblance of a budget :lmao: , cash might help do that!

:earsboy:

Some of the street carts take cards, some don't. The balloon vendors don't. I agree that $20 "emergency cash" should be plenty.

There were a few times that the card system was down when we were REALLY wanting a snack or drink, so we always make sure the carry a $20. We were too lazy to walk to another cart and wait in another line!

I always carry cash with me, just in case. There have been times when the system was down, or the CM didn't know what they were doing. Then it's just easier to use cash and get it over with. I always carry around $50 with me.

I put a $20 bill in my bag on my first day and normally have most of it left on my last day.

$50 with me. You just never know when you might need a few bucks. I never go anywhere without some cash. Different generations I guess.

I agree, about $50 should be enough, that's the amount I always have. Never know when cash will be needed.

Most places take card and cash but I personally like carrying cash at the parks even though i never normally carry it. Then I can keep track of how much I spend, and I don't spend more than that. Therefore I don't get suprised with a bill.

DH and I will be carrying cash on us. We will have our checking account card and 1 credit card as well for souviners. Outside that, all food is being bought with cash. This will help us to make sure we dont go over our budget for food $ and just incase the systems go down. Nothing worse then getting to a meal, eating eat, only then to have the systems go down and we have no way of paying because we have no cash. Not only that, but I perfer to leave cash in tips in WDW. This way I dont have any sneaky servers changing the tip amount because they arent happy with what they got. Not saying that has happened, but you never know.

The vast majority of places take credit cards and room keys. A very few do not. btdt. :)

Sometimes the card machines at the popcorn/ice cream stands aren't working and you need cash. btdt. :)

If you're a big time shopper and go over the hotel's limit of what you can spend (which is different than your credit card limit - I think $1500 is the tops for the day), you can get turned down and might want some cash. BTDT!! :furious:

So you don't have to take any cash if you don't want to...but you may end up wishing you had.

Have a great trip!! :)

If you take say 20 a day with you in the parks. Like some of you suggested. where do you put the rest of your money? lets say I have 5 days there at 20 a day so I bring 5 20 dollar bills where do you leave the other for. do you leave it in your room? just wondering. I am not crazy about walking around with tons of cash on me just in case I loose my purse or somehting. but i am not crazy about leaving tons of money in the room eithor and to take out 20 a day from the atm will kill me in fees. so what do yo all do?????

a little off topic, but i would not suggest putting your cc on your room card. although it has not happened to me (because i never put my cc on my room key) there have been some cases when you pay for your meal with your DDP it is placed as a charge on your room key and you get a surprise at checkout.

- the total amount available to spend on your cc is limited by the type of resort you stay at (I THINK) - if you chose to place a cc on your room key. so, deluxe has the highest limit, where as mods and value are lower.

as far as the cash on hand question... i would suggest keeping cash with you, depending on what type of restaurants you plan to eat at, 20 in cash may not be enough to tip. I would say 50 cash a day would be enough...

Put it in the safe in your room.

I don't think you need cash for in the parks, but we always have cash for mousekeeping, bell services, valets, taxis, etc.
