Do we need ADRs for Kona?

Six of us are staying at the Poly in early December and I am sure we will want to eat at Kona for dinner a night or two. Since I don't know what nights, I was just wondering what other's experience was in being able to walk up and eat at Kona or did you find ADR's were definately necessary? If so, do you think we need to make ADRs now or maybe just call when we get there or earlier the day we want to eat there?

Thanks for your input!

I think you'll be fine. We went there last week and they were taking walk ups even with free dining crowds. Early Dec is notoriously a pretty low time anyways and we've been able to walk into many places at that time of year so I would think you'd be okay. You can always call once you're there or stop by the podium sometime and check it out. If nothing else, you could snag a reservation for the next night or something. Since it's in your hotel it is not a huge hassle to check in.

It was our best meal all last week - we were really impressed. I hope you enjoy it!

We have been there in December and January to eat dinner last minute. NO adr for anyplace just kind of winging it. We had wait around 25 minutes both times. It was not just a walk in situation. No problem for us, we always grab a drink and browse the gift shop or sit and watch the castle in the lounge change colors. :teeth:

We were there late August and had ADRs, and they were turning folks away, unless they wanted to wait 2 hours because there were no openning until after 8:30PM. I make my ADRs for Konas because I don't want to eat late. We have several reservations there for our next trip in 3 weeks.

Things must have changed since January. We walked past Kona on our way to 'Ohana (a little past 6:00 p.m.), and Kona wasn't even a third full.

We ate dinner there one night last week. I know the ADR's were full from about 6:30 until 7:45 that night. It didn't seem that busy in there though. I'm sure you could get in even if you have to wait a little bit. Our meal was awesome. I'd definitely go back again.

Thank you very much for all your replies! I am really looking forward to eating there because it seems to me that the restaurants in the hotels seem to have better food than the park restaurants and their menu looks quite good. (I was very impressed with Boatwrights last year.)

Thanks again!
