We are driving down to Seattle and then flying Seattle to Orlando. My DD18 and I have passports but her BF19 does not have one. Do you think he will have difficulty going over the border - we will be driving over. The TA thought he should get one but he doesn't have much money and I would hate to suggest it if he doesn't really need it. Mind you, I would REALLY hate it if we had problems crossing!!!

Well he may not need it this time but why take the chance as we all know we will need them eventually if you ever want to cross the border in the future as your passport is good for 5 years so it may seem like alot now but think about it over 5 years it does pay for itself if you travel alot and even if it is to cross your nearest border.

We are going in December and me and my kids will all be getting them as you would hate to get to the boarder after make all your reservations and plans to go to Disney to find out you are unable to cross. Also we have a border only 2 hrs away that we can go away for a weekend and if we don't have the passports soon we won't be able to do so.

I know it is a bummer but this is what the world is coming to and soon everyone will have to have one which is so sad as we never had to have them years ago and you could cross and go anywhere it seemed

A Goverment Isued photo ID and Birth Cert ar all that are required till Jan 07 for flying and Jan 08 for driving unless DBF was born outside of the country then he would require proof of canadian citzenship

In April 2005, the United States Government announced the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) requiring all visitors to and from the Americas, including Canadian citizens, to present a passport to enter or re-enter the United States by December 31, 2007.

The WHTI will be implemented in two phases, as follows:

December 31, 2006 - A passport will be required for all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
December 31, 2007 - The passport requirement will be extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

It is usually the best choice to get a passport as you never know what will happen in the US while you're there and trouble starts up. We always travel with a passport and we're heading back to Florida this October too. It's just the best form of ID that is accepted worldwide and it makes things easier for anyone travelling. :thumbsup2
