Car seat? If we are staying onsite and using Magical Express? One less thing to lug around and fill up hotel room space would be great!

No, you will not need a car seat since you are using Magical Express and the buses to the parks. Yeah!!

Are you flying with a child uner 3? Then yes you need your carseat for the plane.

We are flying with a 22month old, but not buying him a ticket. He is able to ride on our lap. If we wanted to bring his car seat we would have had to buy him a ticket.
I found this http://www.babybair.com/ Baby Bair, it secures your child to your lap belt to protect your child against the unexpected dangers of turbulence and to keep your child safely on your lap during flight.

It is NOT approved for use in a car.

Sounds neat. You can find it used for less money on ebay.

You don't NEED a car seat for any age on a plane. It is a totally personal choice.

You need to check with your airline. When I flew Northwest, the flight attendant specifically told me I was unable to use any type of lap restraint with my daughter.

You are not allowed to use lap restraints during take-off and landing. All other times you can. However, I don't like to use them. I've flown with my daughter a lot and I think it would be too much of a pain to use. She always sits in my lap just fine and I wouldn't want to have yet another thing to fiddle with.

Unless you plan on taking a taxi or rental car anywhere, no, you won't need a car seat (although I do agree it's safer to use one on the airplane, I won't belabor the point) ;)

OT: I wouldn't bother with the Baby B'aire either.

This is from the FAA site:

supplemental lap restraints or "belly belts" are not approved for use in both airplanes and vehicles in the United States.

The only harness device approved for use on an airplane by the FAA is the CARES harness, but it is for children 22-40lbs, who are in their own seat, used in conjunction with the lap belt.

Hth.

Many airlines offer half-price tickets for children 2 and under using a car seat. You may have to call to book it. I know for Continental, you can book it on their website. If you don't buy a seat, sometimes they ask for proof if the child looks like he/she could be two or older.

I almost always bought a seat for my daughter-- there was only one trip when I didn't and it was horrible for me.

If the flight isn't very full, you may luck out and be able to get an extra seat for free-- sometimes the flight attendants will help out with seat swapping or you can ask the gate ticketing agents to block out the seat.

The baby B'air is not FAA approved. If there is an emergency you will have to put your baby on the floor of the plane. If the airline has open seats they will let you use an empty one for your child in a carseat. I'd bring it. Just get a carseat dufflebag.

Please not this again! You DO NOT have to put the baby on the floor. You just have to hold them facing you. The attendant will tell you.

Not any flight attendant speaking before congress or to the media. The Flight Attendants Association still site it as protocal everytime they try to get the laws changed.

 You freaked me out!! PUT THE BABY ON THE FLOOR!!???? I called my airline and they said that in an emergency situation that they have you continue to hold your baby. BIG SIGH!! :scared:

Those are well and good during flight but they are not allowed during take off and landing which is when your child is in the most amout of danger.
