Do we get to walk gangplank?

I am a newbie cruiser. Will be on the 4-Day Wonder in December with extended family. We are wondering if the ship actually "docks" in Nassau? In otherwards do we actually walk from Wonder straight onto dock or is the ship anchored in the Nassau bay and we take some sort of ferry onto dock. Is it possible just to get off in Nassau and just walk around the city and shops if we don't want to do any excursions. Sorry for this crazy question. Is there customs in Nassau? Some of us want to do the shopping thing and some want to do excursions, but some of the literature is not clear how you get to and fro from the ship.

Same type of question for Castaway Cay. Does Disney have it's own private dock at the island. Do you actually walk from the ship onto beach? What is the set up there?

At both Nassau and Castaway Cay, you walk right off the ship onto the dock - no "tendering" (taking a small boat) required.

You don't have to go through customs in Nassau, but I do remember having to show ID and the key to get back into the port area. You can definitely walk around and do whatever you want - go shopping, take a taxi over to Atlantis, etc.

Yes, it does dock at both ports. You'll have your KTTW card scanned when you leave the ship. When you return, you'll need it and a photo ID. You'll also go through a metal scanner and your bags are screened.

You're free to do whatever you want once you leave the ship.

Gangplank.....that cracks me up!!! Not nitpicking but proper term is GANGWAY!!! And yes, you will walk out the gangway when in Nassau and Cataway Cay!!!

Whenever I hear gangplank I get visions of priates and poor Wendy standing out on that board with Captain Hook pointing his sword!!!
