We are getting a tour guide for our trip at Xmas for two of our park days since we are brining friends who have never been to WDW and we are splitting the cost. (now the planning is off my shoulders)

Do DVC members get a discount? Anyone use this service before?

Cool! Don't know the answer, haven't seen anything about this in the AP sleeve either. I would call the number that you booked under and ask them to be sure. I imagine any little discount would help, DVC or AP or anything. Good luck!

It's not listed in the perks, so I would guess not. I do know there are members at OKW who use one all the time because they are blind. They take both their guide dogs with them and have a tour guide in the parks. We have run into and visited with them on several different OKW trips.

Did you just see the Disney show about the guides?? Very cool. Having said that...I'll do it for half price!!!!!!!!!!!!! (couldn't resist) :rotfl:

They had a family that did this and the narrator said that it is $100/hour with a 6 hour minimum. :scared1: It is a great idea but I'd rather take that money and add on. :goodvibes

Well...to tell you the truth it is $150 per hour over Christmas.:)

Splitting this with 3 families so not that bad. One of the families has never been and all the kids are different ages etc. I just felt too much pressure to get everyone where they needed to go. We are doing this for 2 of the parks at 6 hours each so it is not that bad. I saw the show...thought it was a little crazy but read some great reviews on the Dis of people who have done this. There was not a person who had a bad experience or who felt it was a waste of money.

Is there a limit to the number of people who can go with one tour guide?

Deb

I view it as a way for generally more wealthy folks to skip every line -- they go right to the front of each line as far as I know. Is that fair? Bet you can do a lot in 6 hours with no lines.

Actually the announcer on the show said that having the guide does NOT allow you to go to the front of the line, you have to wait like everyone else. The VIP tour guide WILL go and get you fastpasses with your admission ticket so you don't have to wait in line at the fast pass machine. ;)

::yes:: We saw a family with a Disney private tour guide waiting in line with us at Spring Break - they did not get any special treatment in terms of lines.

Limit is 10. If more people...you need another guide.

By the way...we are far from weathly! This is just something to make Christmas a little easier since it is my 10 year Wedding Anniversary also. I did not need the pressure of trying to get 10 people through four parks:headache: They did tell me that you DO NOTget in front of the line- which is fine with me. I wanted to enjoy some special time with my family and I felt this is a good way. Split it by 3 and it really is not that much (a non-wealthy person can afford it!).

I just wanted to see if there was a discount.

I think you are VERY smart to do this- now YOU will have a great time, too!:goodvibes

What a wonderful way to do a WDW Christmas! Someone to get fastpasses for you, give you little bits of trivia and you are right YOU don't have to do the planning for those parks. For 10 people, it will be so worth the price and make the best of those 6 hours. If I remember the Travel Channel show right, the guide will get the fastpasses and you do get nice seating for shows. At Christmas, that will be worth the price right there.

vbarry-Have a wonderful time! If we see a group of 10, I just might have to call out your name and see if anyone turns around :rotfl:.

We just did Keys to the Kingdom tour last week and the guide for that also does the private service. She said $125 per hour with a 6 hour minimum. No way Jose would I spend that.

Vbarry, after your trip, please report back and let us know what you think.
Have a great trip!

... and how do I apply for this position to become a personal private tour guide to the parks? How does one verify their qualifications and experience for this position? I'd love to see the resume's -
  • 30 years experience riding space mountain
  • 35 years experience as a frequnter to the Main St Penny Arcade
  • 28 dinning experiences at the Liberty Tavern
  • Working knowledge of back streets and unmapped roadways

We were at WDW in March and came across the same family with their guide at the front of the line on at least 4 rides -- they nor their guide ever showed a fast pass (that I can recall or actually saw) and when I asked the CM she told me that they did not have to wait in line. Maybe she was unclear or did not know -- but my guess is that what is publicly said for PR purposes versus how it actually happens in practice may not quite be the same -- I do not beleive that these guides wait in lines as a general matter and that at least in many cases they get favored treatment a la no limit on number of fastpasses etc. Love to hear from someone who did it.
