Rather than everyone having a cell phone...do walkie talkies work at WDW and if so what distance will they pick up the signal? Thanks :earsgirl:

they do work but if you are going to use them I would get the one's that have the 38 sub channels so that you can change channels is someone else is on your line. and most of the one's that have the sub channels has about a 2 mile range give or take.

It depends on the type of radio you use. In general the FRS radios (ones you don't need a license for) are good up to a max of 5 miles, although this is substantially reduce by buildings and such. We took them on our 2004 trip and frankly it was a waste. The only time I found the need to use them was right before a parade and my wife was hunting down a restroom with our youngest. I kept trying to let her know I had found a good spot but she could not make out what I was saying. We use text messaging on our cell phones now.

Be prepared to talk to lots of folks who aren't in your group. Just not enough channels for all the folks at Disney. Personally, I prefer people use cell phones so we don't have to hear the entire conversation and better yet - text message is the best !

Walkie Talkies don't work well. We tried to use them in Disneyland, which is much smaller, and couldn't hear at all from one side of the park to another. Also, sometimes you get people, like my DH, who think it's hilarious to butt into other people's conversations.

Just got back an hour ago...we brought walkie-talkies along and weren't too optimistic about them, but they worked great. There were times we had to switch channels...but the most difficult aspect of them was remembering what channel we decided on.

It was well worth it...

NEXTELS yup Disney can't be wrong can they.
They switched and so should you .Also BOOST for all you payasyougo'ers

We've used walkie talkies many times and found they work well for us. I guess we must have ours set to a channel not used by many people (no, I won't tell what it is! Actually, I don't know the channel and sub channel as my DH set them.) We really don't use them too terribly often, but it's nice to know we've go them along if we need them. ::MinnieMo
