Do those NY prices seem high?

The eastern and western ports for Oasis and Allure of the Seas are no worse than DCL's. The ships are the destination, just as the Dream and Fantasy are the destination.

I have to disagree with you there NancyIL, I don't know about you but Castaway Cay is one of the best private islands I have been to. RCCL does not even come close with their private island nor do the other cruise lines.

Falmouth Jamaica does not appeal to me, but they can't go to the other ports because the ship is too big, and more than likely if you want to go ashore you are going to have to tender because if the ship doesn't get there early you will have to compete with the other ships to get a spot on the pier.

Disney to me just offers me overall as far as service, food quality, child care and activities etc. I would pay more for that.

I was shocked at the difference between the Galveston starting prices versus the NYC starting prices. Almost $400pp difference for one extra night? Really? I haven't seen anything substantial on the park hopper being included, so it seems outrageous.

Let me preface this by saying I have never been on a cruise. But, DCL sailing out of NY is EXTREMELY appealing to me.

They were a lot higher than I guessed but we're booked for our anniversary trip to NYC plus our DCL fix for the two night. Here's rate as FYI for people booking tomorrow but this is for our family size - 2 adults, 1 child (2) and insurance is NOT in these prices:

Inside: $1061.42
OV - deck 2 9C: $1330.42
OV - deck 6 9A: $1462.42
Nav Verandah: $1582.42Verandah: $1710.42
Concierge: $3199.42

8 night
OV 9A: $4249.69
Ver 5C: $5029.69

Also, they do NOT know which port yet be it Brooklyn, Manhattan, or Bayonne.
I have a question about the bolded. Is that the price for 3 people in a Navigator's Verandah on the 8 night cruise?? If so, I don't think that's bad at all. That includes all the food; right?

What extra things do you get in the concierge?

We got a 7A (which is actually a full verandah with a slight obstruction, but categorized as a navigator's verandah) for $1,880 for 3 adults (no insurance or transfers). It was a little higher than expected (I was hoping maybe $500/pp), but not enough to make us not go.

We are trying to accomplish three things with this cruise: finally do a sailing out of NYC (on Disney is a plus), celebrate our anniversary, and become platinum. This cruise accomplishes all that, making us platinum for our Fantasy Thanksgiving cruise giving us lots of new amentities including our free dinners at Palo.

The length and timing is perfect because it will not cost us any vacation days. Considering we do a weekend in NYC every year with restaurants and at least three plays, we can justify it as our weekend getaway to NYC for 2012 ;)
Which sailing was this for?

I might be crazy but I was thinking $1900 for a cruise for 3 people for 8 nights was great. Am I wrong??? As I said, I have never been on a cruise before.

Your NYC trips sound awesome!! :thumbsup2

What is Platinum?

:lmao: That's for the TWO night - I'd be all over it if it were the eight night! The eight night is listed below that for around $5K.

I have to disagree with you a little on this ... We were going to go with Oasis or Allure for next April - the cost was less than DCL (Not a ton, but a bit) but the ports were not of any interest at all - to any members of our family. My husband actually chose DCL over RCCL and that surprised me considering it was less expensive.

I understand that Haiti needs the tourism right now but it's not for me at this time ... Nor is Jamaica in comparison to the ports for DCL.

But having said that ... it's all a matter of opinion. ;)

My WONDERFUL DH booked the cruise for use while I was in class this morning. We assumed it would come in at around $2,000 for a cat 5 knowing DCL's pricing so were happy that we were able to get a cat 5 on a 2 night for $1,520 without insurance or transfers. We live in NJ and don't have to fly which in the long run cuts costs for us so it isn't so bad.

We have taken weekend trips to WDW. With flights, rental car, hotel, park tickets, food and drink we have easily spent $2,000. The way I rationalize it we will have a room in a amazing hotel, entertainment, and all meals for a lesser amount, it's a deal. I don't know if I would fly in and pay that amount or if I would take my family on but for a rare weekend away with just DH it is really worth it. Also, after cruising with RCL we are more than willing to pay more for DCL. There is a reason it costs more.

Labadee was great. Different than CC, yes, but just as nice. It has a more rustic beauty (green hills/mountain view). I actually thought their bbq was better and we enjoyed the small straw market. I don't think you could even really say your are in Haiti...I mean, you are..but you wouldn't really know it.

We also LOVED climbing Dunn River Falls in Jamaica. I think it might be the best excursion we have ever done.

Sorry, this is for the 2-night NYC to nowhere cruise in August.

Wow --- family of 4 prices out of NY is crazy!!!!

I'd rather fly 2 1/2 hours and get a getter price and a better itinerary.

Maybe it's time to reconsider doing a Disney cruise next year... :(

Ah...I see. I'm sure my cluelessness provided some good entertainment for a lot oe people. :rolleyes1

Like I said, I have never been on a cruise before. Oh well..... some day.

Is everyone really THAT surprised at the prices?

I mean this still is Disney just because they are sailing out of NYC doesn't mean its going to be cheaper.

The Cruises out of New York are not cheap. Unless you are sailing on a down time like in Sept or Oct.

Disney also includes much more than any of the other cruise lines and their cabins are considerably larger than most other cruise lines too.

Also unless this is a rumor, they are including a One Day Hopper Pass and Round Trip Transportation to Disney World. That is a huge savings. If you book that with other cruise lines that could cost you about $150 a person if not more and its not a Hopper Pass either.

I am still excited, when looking at the 2 night cruise to nowhere, again its a little bit higher but on Norwegian's 1 night cruise to nowhere in an OV Cabin its $229 per person withough any drinks included. So Disney is a bit more AND its an extra day.

Bring it on I can't wait to be able to start booking tomorrow. I am just not thrilled with people holding "ghost reservations"

Its not surprising that DCL would include that in their pricing...after all, Disney is constantly determined to get you to spend your vacation dollars with them instead of anyone else.

What's unfortunate, though, is that there may indeed be folks who don't want to go to the parks for one day. Maybe they want to do Kennedy Space Center, or (horror) try Universal or Sea World instead. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if DCL doesn't even offer excursions to Universal or Sea World, and thereby forcing guests to find their own transportation and admission. Spending more money on a different PC excursion raises the price of the trip to even higher levels.

I love Disney as much as the next person. When we go to Orlando we spend the majority of our vacation dollars at The House of the Mouse, staying on-site at the WL and buying 10-day hoppers. Yet the idea of spending the kind of coin they're asking for the cruises is over the edge for me.

I toyed with the idea of taking a Magic NYC cruise instead of my already booked Fantasy Eastern out of PC. Then I checked the prices others have posted.

I realize it is one extra day, plus a park hopper to WDW for one day. However, the price for a 5C for 2A and 2C was higher than what I am paying for my 4C for 3A and 2C with insurance and ground transfers for all five of us.

I'll keep my current reservation. I'd rather pay the airfare and go to St. Thomas and St. Martin, where we have never been. We don't need to do WDW every time we go. And we've been to Nassau a bunch of times. Plus, it would take a lot for me to give up sailing on the Fantasy in it's first year afloat.

Canada seemed too high also. It's not something that would interest my kids and I would happily sail another line out of NYC if just DH and I were going to go.

Now, DCL to Hawaii is a different story. If DH and I could ditch the kids (and my Mom!) and both get the same two weeks off from work, I would be on a plane to L.A. in a heartbeat.

Consider this...for people that live within easy driving distance to NYC.

How much does it cost for a weekend getaway on land somewhere? You have lodging, meals, entertainment, and shopping expenses. On DCL, all your food is included. Your entertainment is on board and is included. Drinks are extra, but DCL doesn't limit how much you can bring on board yourself, so you can save huge there. It's a no brainer for the cruise to nowhere to pay $800-1000 a couple.

We spent $800 just for the B&B on a 3 night getaway to Cape May. This was in September and not considered peak season. Add in lunch, dinner and shopping, it was well over $1,100.

I just priced Amtrak from BWI Amtrak station to NY Penn Station on all of the departing dates for the 5 Night Canada cruises. $90/for two people!!! We will be taking the train up (assuming I get my cruise booked tomorrow!) :thumbsup2

Well we can ride the MegaBus for $3.50 per person up to NYC! But for our cruise, we will splurge and take the train. You can get broadway tickets online at discounts if you watch it. Eat at the local restaraunts, visit the New Disney store at Times Square, there is your inexpensive week-end!

Question... What if you don't plan on going to WDW while in Port Canaveral on the 8 night cruise from NYC? DH and I had talked about booking this cruise, but decided against going to WDW for the day because we have two small children and a 90 minute drive each way does not seem appealing at all. We thought we would visit the Kennedy Space Center or something else that is closer. We're also DVC Members so we thought we could go to WDW another time during the year and use our points to stay on property. Does the cruise price go down at all if you decide you don't want the park hopper and transportation to WDW?

Where did you get those prices from? I thought they weren't available until tomorrow the 8th. I'm looking at the July 20th sailing for 2-A 1-C. Cat-11

DH works in NYC so there is no need to spend the weekend there. But cruising out of NYC is definitely cheaper overall than almost all weekend getaways where you're not camping or staying with relatives.

MegaBus service is horrible. Hunt Valley Motorcoach is a little more expensive, but 10 times more reliable.

They are available today for gold and platinum members.

We have done the Bolt Bus to NYC twice. The first time the driver was horrid; second time was great. Can't beat the price. But for us it's only good for a day excursion as there is nowhere near the stop to leave a car overnight. I HATE driving around in NYC. If we decide not to do any activities in NYC, then we'll just drive straight to the terminal and take taxis/subway from there back and forth.
