Do They Still Sign Pillowcases?

Don't want to be a downer here....but how do you know if the characters are actually signing these things that are dropped off...themselves??? It could be just a CM in a back room doing it all. Or does that not really matter because the kiddies won't know the difference?? Just curious. :scratchin

Um, Lori?

I know we all like to pretend that the characters are real, but in reality, with the exception of Mickey, it's just a CM in a costume. Now, as far as whether that CM is in costume while they sign our pillowcases or not... that's anyone's guess. I don't particularly care as long as Mickey signs my pillowcase.

Because I know that MICKEY is REAL!!!!!!! And I'd know his autograph anywhere. They couldn't slip a fake by me.

Lori, don't feel strange, I asked the exact same question a few months ago here. I thought it was so weird that people were handing over a pillowcase for someone to sign in the back room...it really took away the magic for me. Then someone posted that they did it for their children and having a nice surprise back in their room at night on the bed. Then it hit me, now thats magical!! Its for the kids and making their day magical. :flower:
So the other day, my 16 yr. old son and I were finishing up dinner and I asked him if he would like a pillowcase with all the signatures in it and he said sure! He'd love one. It made me laugh. Our other two sons said the same thing. Then I'm thinking, mmm, that sure would be nice on MY pillow. So it wasn't so strange anymore, it was kinda nice to think about.

I definitely want one for my pillow at home. And if I can get an extra for DS1, that's great too. :earboy2:

Can't have too much Disney magic!!

Well if it's just one CM, then they know all the characters handwriting!

Does anyone know if they will sign t-shirts?

I like the picture mat idea, what size pictures was it for? An 8x10 mat for a 5x7 picture? :wave2:

We were on the 10-16-04 cruise and I took down 4 pillowcases (one for each of my children). The lady at guest services took all 4, had them in a ziplock bag and had our stateroom # on it. I went down the last night to pick them up, but they told me that they would be delivered to the stateroom. They were and were signed by TONS!!! We had the main characters (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Chip and Dale, Pluto) BUT also we got Princess Aurora, Belle, Mr Smee, Wendy Darling, Captain Hook, Daisy Duck, Pocahontas, Mulan, Snow White, and Cinderella. The lady at guest sevices asked me if there was any particular characters I wanted or didn't want to sign them. I was very surprised at what a great job!

I guess it all depends on who is working down at guest services. I know she had a list that she had to add our names, the names of the children (since I told her they were for them) and stateroom to. She said that once this sheet is filled, they can't be sure that you will get the signatures done. She also said that they could only sign one item per person per stateroom.

I hope you have a great trip! What a great idea about the picture frame mats.

Thanks for all the great info posted guys! I plan on doing a pillowcase for DD's birthday cruise on the 27th.

Can anyone recommend a good Iron-On paper to use? And did you put images on one side or both? I am thinking of doing the princess's on one side and then Mickey, Minnie, Pluto...etc. on the other side.

What kind of pens do you use? In the past I have used the Sharpie Rub-a-dub which is waterproof but it only comes in black and I would like more colors then that.

Thanks a bunch!

Where do you get the iron ons for the pillowcases?????

I was able to find some clipart on the internet that I am using. I just searched my house from top to bottom for a Disney Print Creation CD that I knew I had somewhere. After an hour of searching, I found it........cracked all the way across.:( I found it at Wal-mart a few years ago. Not sure how much clipart was on it though.

Thunderrd - Yes, I used an 8x10 mat for a 5x7 picture.

Sharpie's come in lots of different colors. Try going to Office Depot or any other office supply place.

I have some fabric pens that we used to decorate canvas purses for my DD b-day. I'm going to put those in with the pillowcases. The colors of fabric pens are neon orange, bright yellow, blue, purple, hot pink, lime green.

So if I understand everyone correctly...they will sign 5 items for me because I am in a family suite and there are 5 of us in the room. I'm going to do 4 pillowcases (3 kids of my own and 1 kid we're meeting in WDW after our cruise) and 1 signed mat for family picture.

I'm excited about these souveneirs! :cheer2:

When my DH and I went our 30th anniversary cruise last March, I had prepared two pillowcases with the same graphics as our door signs. I took them to guest services, bagged, tagged and markers included. The young man at the desk gave me a GREAT DEAL of attitude, and said they no longer did "that sort of thing." I smiled and told him I had read about it on this board, and that it was my fifth DCL cruise, and that it was our 30th anniversary and I would be so grateful if he could find out how we might be able to get at least a few signatures. A young lady came bustling over, snatched the bag from his hands, winked at me and told me not to worry. We envcountered, unfortunately, this man several times over the course of the cruise, and overheard his conversations with other guests, and he was a "pill" to everyone.

By the way....our pillowcases appeared magically two nights later, on the pillows, with chocolates and anniversary wishes from the crew. Now...that was the magic I am used to seeing aboard the Magic.

Okay, I've been reading these boards for a long time, and I have a question.

I read about the mat idea a long time ago, and at some point, I bought an 18 x 26 collage frame from Kohl's in their clearance area for pennies. Being an 18 x 26 frame, the signature mat is rather large. The collage frames holds about 12 4 x6 pictures in it, and the mat is really wide in all areas.

I was planning on taking it with me for characters to sign and making it a Disney collage for our wall when we got back home; however, now, I'm reading about the "ziploc" rule/idea. I've never heard anyone mention that before.

Do you think, since I obviously can't fit the mat in a ziploc bag, I can just try and ask GS if they'll do it and attach a ziploc bag to the back with a sharpie in it and write our room number on the back of the board?

Or, do you think it'd be a better bet to just carry it with me to see the characters? (I'd really rather not carry a mat with me all over the place...)

Any seasoned cruisers out there who can help me with this one? Thanks! Deb

Hi Deb,

We just got back from the 1/15 Western Magic (great ship but lousy weather, missed both Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay :-( ) and we had them sign a couple photo mats for us. One was 5x7 and the other was 8x10 so we had the same problem with it not fitting in a Ziploc. So we put the small one in a Ziploc with a sharpie and then put that and the larger one in a plastic grocery bag. The CM was reluctant at first to take them, saying that they were only supposed to accept "soft" things (like pillowcases) that the characters wouldn't be able to hold and sign during appearances. But then he went in back and asked someone else and agreed to take the photo mats. We got them back Friday night and they were awesome-- what great souvenirs! Good luck!

We just returned from the Magic on 1/15 - and not only did they sign my kids 3 pillowcases (which we put in a labeled ziploc bag) - when I brought them to the desk at Guest Services - he actually had a form in a black binder that he filled out to "register" what I was dropping off to be signed - and mine was probably 6th or 7th on the list for that cruise alone. They were delivered back to our cabin the last night of the cruise, as promised. Also - the Princess and Tinkerbell pillowcases were signed by different characters than my DS's Nemo pillowcase, so perhaps it's wise to mention if it's for a boy or a girl.

We just got of the Magic 1/8 Eastern cruise. I brought 2 pillowcases to Guest Services for signatures. We had 5 people on the cruise, but only one child and one Disney fanatic (ME!) :earseek: . The CM had a terrible attitude, wanted to know where I heard about this, why I needed 2 pillowcases signed and then I had to call to find out where they were at on the last night. That having been said, they did sign both of them and they looked great.
I think it depends on the CM that you get at guest Services.

I love these ideas! Too bad some of you have run into attitude with a few CM's. I'm hoping they might be on the Magic instead of the Wonder this week!

We're counting down now for our first DC!!!!

Does anyone know if they will sign a plain light grey t-shirt?

Also does anyone remember the names of the CM's that were happy to help you and took your pillow cases or picture frame mats easily?
