we leave st Thomas at 4:45 - would love for them to announce we aren't departing until 6:45 . Do they ever do that?

OKW is right. However, I hear you about 6:45. We make our own way to Trunk Bay (vs. the Port Adventure), and while we love getting there an hour before the tour group does, we still always feel a bit rushed getting back to the ship with a comfortable time margin before 4:45. An extra two hours would be nice.

XMas Cruise 2015 on Wonder, captain extended port time @ Cozumel (on December 26) by 1 hour. I guess it was pure luck, or maybe a late xmas gift for cruisers... lol either way, it was well worth the extra 60 minutes.

I would be hard to do since they have a scheduled time for all the dock workers to be there, and the pilot captain, etc. We've been to St. Thomas 6 times now, and that is our port when we sleep in, don't do any excursions, and just mooch around on the ship day, although we always get off the ship for a couple of hours and just wander. You can only do Coral World and such so many times, and it is a bit of a disappointment compared to the major Aquatic parks.

We were in Europe in 2010 on the Magic, one evening we stayed in port until 12:30a which was not announced until the evening supper announcement. Later we found out it was a planned crew recognition or reward evening, all available to be off the ship were allowed extra hours ashore. Our assistant server was ashore and the assistant from the next section was doing double duty. The crew were very excited that day and the next and our Assistant Server told us about how much fun they had.

On this year's WBTA, we were given extra time in Madeira. I think the captain announced it the day before.

On the Wonder in San Francisco in 2014 we had a crew recognition night too and they pushed back departure by several hours. I think it's unusual though and you likely wouldn't know about it until that day.

I have been on two cruises when our time in Key West was extended until 1:30 am as a reward to the crew for having earned high marks on a recent inspection. So it does happen, but not frequently for all of the reasons posted.

It sometimes happens. It was announced on my second cruise that we would be staying in Nassau and extra hour. I've also been on cruises where we could get off the ship earlier, depending how fast we reached that port and were able to dock.
