Do they change the comforter/bedspread between each guest?

I was wondering if they change the comforters when a new guest checks in. I know that in hotels even high class ones (my brother in law works at the St. Regis in San Francisco) and only change them once a week! EEK! So everytime I stay somewhere the first thing we do is throw the comforters on the floor because I am not sure if they are clean.

I just bought a shark steam cleaner and I am going to bring that with us next time...

I doubt it..
I always said the weak link in DVC is the housekeeping.

This started on our very first stay in 2002. We pulled the comforter down, and on the bottom we saw... a urine stain the size of Rhode Island.

I have seen threads here saying the same thing at Disney (ALL resorts). Personally, I was shocked. I guess I expect too much.

No. You expect what SHOULD be expected from a top level establishment known for their pristine surroundings.
The shame is that Disney does not live up to their image... Although at one point in history they did.

No offense to RI'ers, but Rhode Island is a pretty small state...

Rhode Island maybe small...but a pee stain that size is LARGELY GROSSS

Am I the only one who is intrigued to know how MG identified the stain as urine? As opposed to iced tea, soda...or whatever...

Secondary question: Do we really want to know HOW MG identified the stain? Possibly not.

Haha!!! Good one! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Actually, It *looked* like pee. It was at the proper "latitude" on the blanket, and was the proper shade of yellow with the darker golden rim..

I suppose it could have started out as iced tea.
Not sure what else to say...

Ok so if they do not change the comforter do they at least change the blanket under it??? I know they do the sheets and pillow cases....right???

I doubt those things are cleaned more than twice per year. I keep the comforter on the bed only to "clean up" the overall look of the room if I anticipate company or need to organize, otherwise it's folded, put off to the side and I call down for extra blankets (& pillows while I'm at it) which they do wash often.

If it is any comfort to anyone, I will tell you that I have personally witnessed mousekeeping removing the comforters and sending them to the laundry with the rest of the bed linen when cleaning between guests. I also asked about the comforters because I also heard rumors about them not being changed and was told they are changed with each new guest. Mousekeeping told me they are required to change them because of health codes or some such thing. The risk of not changing them between guests and causing the passage of numerous ailments from guest to guest is a huge liability that Disney does not want to get involved with. This was also verified when DH and I took the Back Stage Tour and toured the laundry facilities. The amount of laundry done at Disney in a 24 hour period is phenomenal. Changing the comforters between guests is just a drop in the bucket compared to all the resort bed and bath linen, costumes, uniforms, restaurant linen, etc. done daily. I hope this helps to calm any doubts. I know it made me feel better to get it verified.

Disney and no other hotel changes the comforters after each guest. They change them if needed, badly soiled, damaged and once a month. There is no danger to anyone's health from a comforter.

Most hotels are now going to duvet covers over the comforters and they do replace them after each guest, as they are very easy to laundry.

If DVC washed those heavy comforters after every guest they would only last a few months and would have to be replaced constantly.

I always fine it interesting this bothers anyone, who sleeps under them anyway, I don't.

I can assure you there are more germs that could actually make you sick on the tv remote and phone.

I do pretty much the same thing. And I don't think this problem is unique to Disney. I've stayed at many upscale hotels and I don't ever see a housekeeper's cart loaded up with extra comforters & bedspreads.

That being said, I wonder about the duvet covers at BLT. It was one of the few places I've stayed recently where it really seemed like the comforter was crisp and fresh and clean. I didn't feel the need to toss it aside.

They DO NOT change comforters and blankets between hotel guests.

How do I know this?

Because, last April, my DD threw up on her bed at BWV. When housekeeping brought fresh linens, I helped the housekeeper make the bed to get it done quicker. I got a live tutorial in the proper way to make a Disney bed by a professional Disney housekeeper (yep, she explained all the official Disney folding and tucking to me as we went along). The proper way to make a Disney bed is to fold the top sheet over the blanket so the guests' face always comes into contact with "fresh sheet", not the blanket ... b/c the blankets are not changed between guests.

Yep. A housekeeper told me that ... not a bus driver, so you know it is true.

Also, a tip. If you want a fresh blanket, have your child throw up all over the place. You'll even get a fresh mattress pad out of that one.

Assume a hundred naked people have sat on the bedspread
I also remove it from the bed, I don't want my germs to mix with all the others :rotfl:
It's also a good idea to wash the glasses.

The first thing I do when I get into the room is roll naked over the carpet, bury my face into the comforter, and lick the remote. And forget about the 5-second rule, if I drop food on the ground, I just brush off the dirt and hair and pop it in my mouth.

I exaggerate of course, but seriously the germaphopia in this country is crazy (thank you Dateline and 20/20!) Now I am not defending leaving a urine-stained comforter on the bed (I should hope that mousekeeping at least checks them during each cleaning to make sure they aren't particularly dirty), but the chances of getting anything from a bedspread is largely nil. You are exposed to germs every day, and should be, that is how you develop and exercise your immune sytem.

While you are freaking out about unchanged bedspreads, just think about all the things you touch in public places over a given day. The bedspread pales in comparison. You might have had 20-30 people in some contact with your bedspread before you, but guarantee you thousands have touched the steering wheel of the Indy Cars before you.

Somehow I find this information kind of ironic in light of the fact that DVC tried to tell us that the reason they were going to disposable glasses and styrofoam coffee cups was that the dishwasher didn't clean things "up to their standards of cleanliness/disinfection." Yet, we're supposed to sleep on beds with comforters that haven't been cleaned at all between guests, let alone in dishwashers. Kind of ironic!

Yep guess it is, the comforter thing is just industry standard. Makes no difference if its a 5 star hotel or a value one. They just don't do it.

And we all know Disney tells you what they want you to hear based on how it benefits them.
