Do the Resorts, change the comforter's at check-in

Terrific idea Steffi!! I never thought of a gas station or even a car wash. Now to get my hubby to see how sensible this is!! LoL

I would expect the outside bedding to be visibly clean, but I think bringing your own comforter is a bit extreme.

The change the sheets at the GF every day. As soon as I arrive I take the comforter off the bed and I have yet to have the maid put it back on.

The thought of sleeping w/someone else's blanket is a bit gross, but aside from packing your own, what are you going to do?

It's no different than the hand rails we hold onto when on a ride, or the chairs we touch at the restaurants, or the door handles, etc etc etc.

The world is full of germs...and there's only so much we can do about them!

Ok, I just think when I check in I will ask this question and request for a clean spread and blanket to be put on... bringing a can of lysol as well.

I guess I just don't worry about that kind of stuff. I always use the comforter at the Disney hotels. They always seem clean enough and I've never gotten sick or anything. Of couse, I also swim in the pool with the ducks and hold onto the hand rails on Splash Mountain! ;) I guess I'm pretty relaxed as far as germs go. Like somebody else said, our world is full of germs and there are enough other things to stress over. It's just not something I'm worried about.

I pack my can of Lysol. I mist the bedspead and I take in off the bed when we go to sleep. I also spray the toilet and bathtub. I have always found the bedding at WDW to be visibly clean, and we have not died from germs on vacation yet!

I hear shinning a black lite on the comforter may reveal some hidden gems splashed upon a hotel room comforter. And I dont mean Hidden Mickeys :p

I can't believe this has sparked such a discussion. It is just not something I would EVER loose sleep over, in the grand scheme of things!

If you don't want to use the comforter, take it off of the bed, or call and make a request that newly washed comforters be put on the bed before you check in. I am SURE this is very doable! I am sure that the resorts have had weirder requests. No sense in starting off your vacation paranoid of the comforters/ blankets, etc!

This discussion usually pops up every six months.

What do you do about your seat and head rest on the plane? I am sure they don't clean seats between flights. Pack the hand sanitizers, I guess.

I can fully understand about the grossness of using someone else's blanket & comforter. But as long as you're not rubbing it around your face & licking it, I don't see what the real problem is. Yes, it's gross - I just don't think about it too much. It's just part of life - we are constantly touching things that other people (millions of them) have been touching before us. For those of you who peel off the comforter when you first get there, do you also peel off the blanket too? And throw the pillows also into the closet with the comforter & blanket? What about sitting on the daybed or chair that someone else might have sat on? Maybe even naked?? Yuck!! :o :o :o

I don't get grossed out about the chairs and so on. I do gross out over bed covers however. I don't like to think about what may have been done on them before I got there.

Lizzie-Haha! You're probably right. My comforter trash bags are always the last thing I sneak into the car. My husband would never actually condone this behavior!

My husband would be stopping by the psychiatric hospital to drop off both me and the comforter, pillows, etc on his way to WDW!

JMHO, but if you are THAT paranoid about germs, etc, don't even go- stay home where you have total control over your environment and what you come in contact with.
Germs are part of life- no matter what you do you can't get away from them. Besides, just because you ASK for a freshly laundered bedspread and blankets and pillows does not mean that is what you GET. How many of you let your kids play on the floor of the hotel room? When was the last time it was shampooed? You could do that for every thing you come in contact with on your vacation and drive yourself crazy, or you could just relax and have fun.
Again, JMHO.

Not only that, being exposed to germs actually helps strengthen your immune system! Those who get sick are the ones who try to sanitize EVERYTHING, and stress over it, as well!

All of the anti bacterial items that are on the market are actually breeding more resistant forms of germs, and kill the good bacteria that help to keep the bad bacteria from harming you. So before you start bleaching and Pine Sol-ing everything, stop and thing... would I rather be exposed to the common everyday germs, or some germ they don't even have an antibiotic for?

That's exactly what my DH would do eeyore0062! I never really thought I was obsessed by this subject but it does kind of bother me. Hence the can of lysol. I figure I do what I can do and hope nothing really bad happens. We have only asked for a clean comforter one time { even though I know we can do so.} and that was at CSR and the comforter had sticky food smashed all over it. {gross} I still can't understand how housekeeping could have made that bed and not seen that. {or touched it for that matter} My daughter would come armed with lysol and rubber gloves right into the parks if we would let her. Although I do take antibacterial wipes along with me into the restrooms. I feel it doesn't hurt to be a little careful.

That is way too funny!!!!! I think it may be the first time I've truly LOL while reading a post..

My husband and I own a 30 unit motel, and we wash the bedspreads about every 2 weeks, or when dirty.... I have know this for 10 years, and I also know that some motels don't even wash them that often.... but I have to say, when I stay someplace I do not even give it a second thought....... The majority of people who stay here are very clean people.... and I would suspect that is the same at WDW Hotels....

Like someone else already posted.... if you have the need to control your enviroment that much you should just stay home... we share alot of things with strangers.... no big deal... I'm going to WDW in 2 weeks and I couldn't careless who may have laid on the bedspead NAKED before I got there!;)

Another alternative is to stay in one of those vacation homes... that way when you get there, you can spend the 1st day cleaning and sanitizing, and won't have to worry about it for the rest of your vacation!

When my babysitter went to WDW with her Mom, they were getting ready for bed and she saw a white bug on the bed. Her Mom peeled off the blanket and comforter and saw thousands of little white bugs(presumable lice or crabs). Needless to say, they didn't sleep that night, and requested another room in the morning.

I don't take off the comforter, but ever since that I do peel everything back and look closely for bugs before getting in to bed.
