Do the elevators at BCV "ding" at every floor?

Silly question, I know, but my son is a light sleeper and had issues when we stayed at the Swan because our room was right by the elevator and he heard the "ding" every time it stopped at our floor - we changed rooms. We were recently at OKW - no elevators, so no problems. We are going to BCV this fall and he's already asked if the elevators will "have a bell". I'm thinking the sound insulation is likely better with an exterior entrance, but would request far from the elevator if noise might be an issue.

Anyone had noise issues there - "dinging" or otherwise?

I believe all elevators "ding", it's for the sight impaired.

Have you tried purchasing him ear plugs? I work nights, so sleep during the morning hours. I can hear a bird tweet 2 miles away. LOL So I use a fan at home in the bedroom for noise all year long to mask outdoor noise. Many other overnighters use ear plugs.

We've stayed there many times and to be honest, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure it doesn't ding at each floor as it moves. But not sure if it makes any noise when the doors open.

I will say that the elevators are not beside the rooms as some hotels are. However, I can see how it could echo in the area it is in.

By the way, I find that I am very sensitive to noise. I don't recall being bothered by it.

I think the best recourse would be to request a room far from the elevator. If you make this your one and only request, there is a better chance that they will consider this important to you and will try to assign you a room away from the elevator. In my opinion, if there are a few requests, they will assume that one is not more important than the other. And when it's time to assign the room, they may give you at least one of your request, and this may not be the one that's important to you.

Yes, I agree with that. The one time I had a room close to the elevator, I didn't hear any "ding", but it was the loudest room I ever had, what with all the people walking by and revelers getting off the elevator loudly late at night. However, this last time I had a room in the "wing" off to the right from the long hall and it was very quiet. Even DH, who's a light sleeper, commented on how quiet it was where we were. When you get off the elevator, turn right down the long hall. About half way down there's a right you can take, it has an ice machine, vending machines on the corner. The first room in that jog is -39, just so you know where to turn. Down that hall is very quiet.

I'm trying to remember about a ding too, and I can't seem to remember either. If there is one it isn't a very loud one. I went to the DVCnew website and looked at the room reviews of those rooms adjacent to the elevators. Many mentioned "convenient to elevator" but only one mentioned elevator noise (this was a 5th floor studio next to the pool elevator). I think the people noise might be more bothersome then the elevator noise.

The elevators are supposed to "ding' on each floor by the elevator code. Unless they are grandfathered in as older ones.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I had never thought about visually impaired riders, so it does make sense that a "ding" would now be required. We will be making a request to be away from the elevators as the people noise might be troublesome.
