Do the car rental code rates change daily?

I checked out over 60 discount codes about a week ago. The best I found was with Alamo, full size 11 nights $297 including all taxes April 29-May 10. Everyone keeps talking about the great rates they got with various codes with other rental companies. When I go and check those rates, they are nowhere near as low as what I got. Was mine just a fluke? When I checked my ressie, it's still the same as what I printed out, but if you put in the same disount codes it's now about $80 higher. Could someone please explain how the rental agencies utilize their codes. I'm hoping I don't have to check 60 codes every day. I used the coupon off vacationoutlet.com for Alamo Rate Code BY, ID#698805 and coupon code DL1B. Help!!!

They can change often.. I have made reservations and then came back to check and found the price to be higher.

It's all based on availability and demand. As you get closer to the date, the car rental companies can tell how many of their fleet remains unrented. Dollar ,for example, has approx. 10,000 cars in the Orlando market. By renting way in advance, with a good code, you'll get a price. As you get closer, that code may not work anymore or get blacked out if the demand goes up for those days. (Like Tampa making the SuperBowl would have forced rates thru the roof in San Diego possibly since a large part of the travelers had to fly in as opposed to San Fran making it where you might have had more drivers come down). Now, if a playoff game gets cancelled, etc. then you'll have a rash of cancellations and the company will have to drop the rates to try and make those back up. That's where new codes will be leaked out or rates will drop for other codes.

Something like that. GMF40 rates dropped last week even though they were some of the lowest rates Dollar offered. Go figure.....must have to do with the impending war and such....I dunno
