We'll be taking a taxi from DLH to SNA. I know that I can ask for a flat rate, but do the drivers accept credit cards? Trying to figure out how much US cash to bring with us.

Most taxi's now take credit cards. If you want to pay with a credit card just ask/ confirm with the driver that they can take them before you get into the taxi just to be sure. There will be a bunch of taxi's all lined up so if one does not take CC's then chances are the next one will.

Technically a flat rate would be a violation of Orange County's taxi regulations. It's supposed to be a flag drop, mileage, and wait time. Not sure if anyone has ever been busted for it though. However, the regs are a little bit unclear. They make it sound like it might be possible to offer a set rate, but that they still need to drop the meter and aren't allowed to charge more than what it says.

9.4. Fares Charged.
Driver shall not charge fares or charges higher than those authorized in the OCTAP Regulations. Furthermore, the driver shall activate the taximeter and keep it activated at all times while carrying a fare-paying passenger.

Now this is slightly different than what they say on their website:

http://www.octap.net/passenger_fares.htm

Current Orange County Passenger Taxicab Fares

● $3.50 for the flag drop and first 1/5 mile
● $0.55 for each 1/5 mile, after the first 1/5 mile ($2.75 per mile)
● $32.00 per hour wait time (Approximately $0.53 per minute)

● No Extra Charge for Additional Passengers
● Credit Cards are accepted.

No other fare is authorized for trips originating in Orange County.
So they say that credit cards are accepted, but there doesn't appear to be any standards for which ones nor what happens if the equipment doesn't work. I've heard a lot of drivers will just claim that their equipment doesn't work, when they really would rather be paid in cash.
