Do Spa Services come with a hard product sell?

I will pretty much never go to any spa on Disney property land or sea for this reason. And WAY overpriced as well. If there would be an onboard special perhaps maybe. But I find the sales pitches intrusive and awkward. And they aren't always just at the end. I've had folks interrupt my service for a lecture. :crazy2:

I want to know where all you live that think Disney is so overpriced! lol The prices are comparable to my area. Sure you can find cheap-o places in a strip mall for less but not in a real spa.

I still think it sounds rude to say, "I'm not interested..." no matter how 'politely' one says it, (IMHO.)

I've always written at the bottom of the form "I prefer to not buy any products right now."

After 9 massages in 10 years, I've never had an issue.

I agree. It makes me very uncomfortable. I at least feel like I have to listen to the whole spiel before I say I am not interested and that frustrates me because I just want to bask in whatever treatment I just had.

I will take your advice and write on my form that I do not want any products.

Yes, and sometimes they make it sound like it is included in the price of the service. I had a microdermabrasion facial and at the end the woman kept saying "I want you to have..." I knew it wasn't included, but the way she kept saying it made me think twice and I asked how much everything cost. It was $500 worth of products! I also read on here that a woman sent her daughter for a pedicure and they asked if she would like xyz with it and the girl said yes, she didn't know it would be extra. She found out when mom got the bill.
I was just on the fantasy and i had a pedicure and manicure and i didn't get the hard sell. Yes a proucet was offtered and i told them that i would think about it and that was it. I had the firer and ice pedicure and manicure it was great. I loved the pedicure because i had it my first night on the ship. I had just been to wdw. I think that you have to be upfront with the spa.

I have always written at the top of my paperwork no sales please.

I have always written "no sales pitch, please" on the bottom of the spa form and have never once been pressured to buy anything at the end of my massages.

All of this has made me reconsider getting ANY Spa treatments on the Fantasy.

I find nothing worse than people trying to sell me something when I'm not there for a ""sale"--I'm there for a relaxing time.

Why isn't enough to display the products or have literature available about the products? Anyone TRULY interested could then inquire.

You would think that with all the people saying "not interested" in advance, they might get the notion that the hard sell dosen't work.

OR--maybe for a lot of people it does?? You feel somehow "guilty" and wind up buying something you don't REALLY want or need.

I am so surprised reading all the previous posts. Have done a few different spa treatments on different cruises and I don't remember getting any sales pitch at all. Maybe I requested it on the form, but I don't remember doing so. My daughter did get a facial on a port day, and afterwards the attendant suggested a sunscreen moisturizer for her. I never felt any pressure to buy it, it seemed more informational to me.

The last cruise I was on(2001 - Royal Caribbean) I signed up for some Spa services. Every one came with a hard product sell where I was forced to say no thank you throughout the service. I swore never to visit a Spa on a cruise ship again after that.

Do the Spa Services on DCL work the same way?

I had spa services twice and both times a wonderful experience...they didn't try to sell any products. However, I will book a couple more services on my next cruise ;)

Yes, they tried to sell me items at the end of each of my massages. They do it very subtly, but selling they are. It's my most unfavorite part, but I go anyway and I always enjoy the massage experience :)

I do find they will respect it if you say "no sales please" on your form. However, what I really like (I'm soooo picky, lol!) is when they just simply state what they are using on you while you are having the treatment (Like, "Now I'm applying a lavendar tea exfoliant" or whatever). That way, you know what the product is and if you want it, could go inquire about it. That has been my favorite way of having this situation treated and the only time I bought something.

"Please do not try to sell me products, I just wish to relax. If I purchase products I will have to use the gratuity I have set aside for you to do so."
:rotfl::rotfl2:I love this! I may have to try it next time they don't get the hint! ;)

I think it works for a LOT of people. They feel guilty or obligated, or just really hate to say "No" to people. It's easier to just fork out the money...

Sayhello

You beat me to this posting! Fortunately, we've never had to use it because we only got a "soft sell", but my husband and I were going to use this if necessary. I'm guessing most would glady receive a tip rather than selling a product.

I had a hard sell on the Magic but not on the Fantasy. I had a wonderful hot stone message and did buy a product I asked for, but there was no hard sell. The lovely therapist even went out of her way to help me solve a problem. All that aside, I won't have any more messages on cruises, only because they are much less expensive elsewhere and I would rather use the time doing something I can't do at home.
