You know the bracelets with the marble to prevent motion sickness?
Also, do the patches cause drowsiness?
If I take Dramamine OR the "less drowsy" Bonine, I'll sleep thru the cruise!!!
(and that's an expensive nap)

The bands work for some and not for others..they did nothing for me or my family...Bonine worked great and I was never sleepy at all, I would take it first hting in the morning and was fine the whole cruise. The patch has some wicked side effects for some people, vision so blurry you can't even read a menu....if you are goignto use the patch try it at home frist so you can be sure how you will react to it.

I don't know sea bands but I asked my doctor about the patch and he refused to write for it. He said the side effects were too bad. He said it caused really bad urinary retention at first and then after a few days it caused incontinence. I don't need that on vacation or anytime. He recommended Dramamine no drowsiness 12 hour formula. Hope that helps.

Sea Bands don't work for me at all. The Relief Band works on me. It's the one that gives you a little electrical shocks at regular intervals. I think I'm so focused on when it's going to shock me again, that I'm not thinking about the queasiness. I have to wear the patch onboard. Oral meds and the Relief Band are my back ups, for when it gets really bad.

My daughter gets motion sick easily in a car, so she used the seabands on the cruise and they seemed to work for her. It's kinda hard to say if they work or not because if you wear them and you don't get sick, is it because of the bands or because the motion doesn't bother you? Some people swear by them. I dunno. One of life's great mysteries.

I used Sea Bands on my last cruise and I am prone to motion sickness, but only on ships, not speed boats or cars, it is odd. The first cruise I went on in the early 90's, I had an inside cabin and I realized I was claustrophic and I was sick only at night. So, a couple years ago, I went on Carnival and had a stateroom with a balcony, but it only helped the claustrophobia, but I was still sea sick, only at night. So, last december I bought Sea bands and Dramamine, I only took 1 dramamine before the ship left, but after that I used the bands. As the ship started on it's way, the water was a little rough, because my dd was in the mickey pool and the water in the pool was swaying back and forth, but no sea sickness and the 2nd day I guess I got my sea legs or the water was really really calm, but I will be using the bands again in December again, better safe than sorry. My dd6 was making fun of me, because thankfully she doesn't get motion sickness, so when the ship started to leave, I had to hurry up and put the bands on and my daughter was saying, you better put them on before you get sick and she was laughing. You just have to find out what works for you. I had taken both because I wanted to try the bands because the dramamine had made me drowsy a couple years before that, and I really wanted to enjoy the cruise with my daughter. Good luck!

Last year we hit seas of 30 feet. I didn't have sea bands but had Bonine that I took one a day. My experience was that Bonine made me feel alittle tipsy, alittle sea sick (instead of the alot of sea sick without) and I would knock right out at night.

This year, we didn't get worse than 20 foot seas crossing the Tasman Sea. I wore Sea Bands and that did the trick for me. I had the Bonine but didn't take it once. I once had my bands off and started to feel funny when the seas got rougher, I popped on my bands and felt better right away (you can push in on the button for faster relief and that helped me).

I bought the Sea Bands in the kid size for the kids. The one size fits all would not have put enough pressure on their wrists.

Sea band didn't do squat for me or my family. The side effects of the patch were worse than the sea sickness, and like you, the Bonine and Dramamine made us all drowsy and kind of "off kilter". However, Ginger tablets worked great for everyone in my family. We started taking them the day before boarding, and kept taking them until disembarkation.

Meclazine worked great for me on the ship...with no drowsiness.

It also kept me from getting nauseated on Star Tours and Astro Orbiter.

But NOTHING could help on Mission Space.

Yikes! I checked out the Relief Band on drugstore.com and it's really pricey. I would hate to lay out that kind of money ($79) and have it not work!

I'm a believer! I was a flight nurse ...I wore my bands religiously (to ward off evil spirits) One flight I couldn't believe how nauseous I was (thinking god help this patient... someone's going to need to take care of me ;) !) I looked down and realized I didn't have the bands on. I think the trick is having them on BEFORE the motion starts. Once it starts youre in trouble! Also the worst thing that happens if it doesn't work for you is you're out $6 worth a try!

I have cruised 7 times and never been seasick, even in very high seas.

But I can tell you this, when I was expecting my children, the bands really helped with my morning sickness....and I had morning sickness BAD!

DW swears by the Sea-Bands. Says they work great and will use them again when needed. She also uses Bonine. The patch can have worse side effects than actually being sick.

Go offshore fishing for tuna a lot. Thank god I do not get sick, but have had many friends get sick on my boat. My experience tells me that the bands really dont seem to work much, and drammine only works part of the time. The patches work, but the side effects could be a problem. If you use the patch, put it on right before you go to bed so your body can adjust to the medication before you begin your day. I have several friends who started doing this and feel fine all day. Hope this helps!

Where do you get Ginger tablets? And also, I heard that you cant drink alcohol while taking bonine or dramamine, is that true? We will be on our honeymoon and plan and celebrating with a lot of champagne and cocktails :cool1:

I drank the last cuirse while taking bonine and had no problem...I guess it would depend on how much you drink..I had one drink on Monday and then another at CC LOL...but those had no effect on me.

Hi There,
We Did The Feb3-6 Wonder, Very Rough The First Night 11-14 Ft Waves Side To Side. We Put Our Bands On 2 Hours Before We Sailed And Didn't Take Them Off Until The Morning We Got Off The Ship. The Idea Is To Get The Pressure Going Before The Motion With Constant Pressure, therefore Not Taking Them Off. When It Was Very Rough The Captain Greeted Us At The Dining Room And Suggested We Go To Guest Services And Ask For "sea Calm" . Just Remember To Take 1 Tablet Every 12 Hours, Not One Pkg. Oops, Had A Nice Sleep The First Night. But The Next Time We Took Them, Only 1 Tablet, It Worked Very Quickly And No Drowsiness. I Don't Know If You Can Buy Them Anywhere, But They Carry Them At Guest Services For Adults Only Though.

Almost Forgot, We Also Brought A 6 Pack Of Ginger Ale On To Put In Our Fridge, And A Container Of Ginger Snap Cookies, If You're Queazy And Don't Feel Like Eating Anything Too Heavy, This Helps To At Least Get Something In To You.
