Do resorts change mugs every year?

I agree, I hope they do change the mugs. We are planning to go back sometime in 2007, and would hate to have to buy the same style pop mugs again. Besides, I think the pop mugs are kind of boring compared to the other resort mugs. I would like to see characters of some sort on them instead of the tie die theme. Just my opinion though.

Sometimes the self-righteous people on this and other boards amaze me. When I was a new member I asked what I thought was an innocent mug question and I was called just about every name in the book, so I took it upon myself to get the answer from Disney, this was in October of 05, here ya go.......Now please, stop being so nasty about this subject

From: 10/05 post
After a phone conversation with a CM I confirmed the information I received from the CM by sending an e-mail to WDW. I received an e-mail from customer service in response to my inquiry. The mugs that are CURRENTLY being sold are for "length of stay" and cannot be brought back, the signage and mugs are specific. However this is a fairly new policy. Mugs purchased in the years of "can be brought back at any time to same resort" are still being honored. The mug must return to the same resort. In the case of the All-Stars (that was part of my specific questions) the All-Star mugs that I purchased when we were there 6 years ago can be brought back and used at any All-Star resort.

That said, with a clear conscience, knowing that my ethics have not been compromised and that I am not trying to cheat, I will be bringing our mugs with us. It is not the specifics of the money involved or thinking the offer "was too good to be true" it is a matter of principle, Disney said they were good for a lifetime, you've got to figure Disney was banking on the premise of how many people will actually return with their mugs to the same resort. We were in Disney Dec99/Jan00 for the Milennium Celebration. END OF 10/05 POST

Our 12/05 trip w/ mugs update:
We took our mugs, we used them and one morning just by coincidence there were 5 of us in line at the food court, we all had our mugs on our trays and the CM noticed that we had 5 different designs represented between us, the CM thought this was really great and congratulated us on the smarts of remembering that our mugs were "good for life" keeping them and bringing them back with us....One of the guys bought his in 98

So there, can we all be kind to each other again? This world is so full of ugly things it is a shame that those that share the love of the Happiest Place on Earth, can't share that same love with each other, especially over MUGS :sad2: !

That was well said. Thank you!

I've read posts from folks who get enraged with the thought that someone would reuse their mug.

Take a deep breath, count to 10...

...all this fuss about liquid refreshments :stir:

mamacatnv.....thank you for defending my honor. Over the last twenty-eight years Disney has accumulated a great deal of my money. Every time I refill a mug I remember that and think of it as a small thank you from them.

I have a question Regarding the mugs, I am staying at 3 different places this trip and I am trying to decide which on to get the mug at (if at all) which is easier to get to, so I can have it refilled. We are staying at AKL the Poly and OKW.
Allears says that poly and OKW have 12 oz while AKL size is "Travel or Standard" I take it that is smaller right? and I think that I am right in saying that which ever one you get it at that is the only one you can get it refilled at right? So it would make more sense to get it at Poly or OKW because I am staying there for a bit longer than AKL. Am I right on this?
Thanks for you help.

I would just about bet you could ask the manager of each resort if you could use the same mug and they would tell you okay. Just keep a copy of your ressie with you showing it is all one continuous trip along with your receipt showing you purchased the mug on this vacation.

I doubt many folks get worked up about liquid refreshment. What folks get worked up about is honesty and integrity.

We had a split stay in 2004 between riverside and Pop, the manager had no problem with us using the mug after we switched, he actually thanked me for being honest and upfront with asking instead of just doing it.

The refillable mugs are refilled for free, yes. (That wasn't always the case, incidently, at at least one of the resorts, but they're all the same now.)

And you get these at the resort? THanks for the info!
Yes, they are available in every resort for approx $12, they can be refilled with any of the fountain drinks, coffee and cocoa as often as you like for the duration of your stay. They are not usable anywhere else ie.. the parks, DTD or at other resorts.

When drinks run about $2 ea, it doesn't take much to justify the cost.

Not a liar, just cheap. You are taking advantage of the refillable mug rule and you know it. The mugs are intended to be used for the time you are presently at the resort. Not a one time purchase to be used for years to come. :moped:
Taking advantage? c'mon! At 12 bucks a mug- times how many per party, do you know how much soda costs to distribute????? you'd have to refill it like 600 times to break even! And most people don't-

And when you buy your mug you agree to the rules as Disney sets them. If you bought your mug earlier, they were good forever. Now however they all state that they are good for the trip you puchased them only. It doesn't say that as Disney is overcharging you feel free to do what you want. If you don't want to follow Disney rules, don't go to Disney.

Mugs are changed yearly so people can't keep using the same mugs over and over again. This cuts down on people not paying for their drinks. :lmao:

Use your mug, it's not like anyone will say anything. Besides that's why you bought it, unlimited drinks. Have a great time and drink up!

I know from experience that newbies to this board are unaware the uproar that is caused by the "Great Mug Debate" and that innocent questions asked can turn into a huge uproar. The majority of the folks out there are not trying to cheat the system, they are making an innocent inquiry or a comment based on assumed or incorrect information. Face it, if the policy was SO WELL KNOWN, the questions wouldn't need to be asked.

To all who are unaware of the mug policy or whom have questions, I suggest you read this post before proceeding with a comment.

Please note the response below that came directly from Disney.

The email back from Disney *The mugs that are CURRENTLY being sold are for "length of stay" and cannot be brought back, the signage and mugs are specific* When exactly did this start what year?

We bought our WL mugs in 2001 when it was stated "they were good forever". They are packed and ready to return.

I would think any mugs that were sold without the current length of stay message printed on them would be good for future visits. Whether or not Disney ever intended them to be used again, they should have started including the message on the mugs from the inception of the program if they never wanted any of the mugs to be used for more than one stay.
