Do resort guests have to go through security again at the parks?

The storage area I referenced is just that small compartment on the handle between the 2 cup holder spaces. It has a flip top. It won't hold more than a glass case and cell phone which is what she had in it. I think most strollers other than the umbrella type have something like that. Storage area was a poor description but he told her to take it through bag check in the future.

If the stroller has on it any compartment with a cover it will need to go thru bag check. I have seen them be very thorough with strollers. I've even seen them have the child removed if there was something in the basked the security guard couldn't readily view with the child seated.

After getting off the WL boat transport to go to the MK we went through security at the dock. Then we went and did security again at the main security area. Once again I have no clue if it was due to the holiday crowd and/or something was said to authorities to have Disney on their toes. I do not know but I do know our experience last trip with security. And with the GF everyone went through security at the monorail stop to leave GF then we went through it again before entering MK. If there was a secret passage to take for those who have already been through...we did not find it. Unless the security was moved since December to be closer to the bus stop...it was towards the front right before scanning magicbands.

There is no “main” security area. People coming from the TTC are screened there. People coming from resort monorail are screened at the resort before getting on the monorail. People walking from the Contemporary are screened on the walkway. People coming from the boats are screened on the dock when they disembark. People coming from buses are screened in an area near the buses. There are metal detectors in all of these locations.

It’s possible that if you are confused where you’re going, you may walk the wrong way (toward the buses from the boat dock, for example) and end up being screened twice once you make your way back the correct direction. But I’d be surprised if Disney actually set up more screening locations for the sole purpose of screening people a second time.

I stayed at WL last May and traveled to MK both via bus and boat. There are definitely separate screening areas for the different modes of transportation.

While it may seem small to you, it is large enough to have something nefarious if it will hold a glass case AND cell phone. Next time, I'd put those items in a pocket and flip up the top to show it's empty if they want to go through the no bag line.

We went during December and yes we also were screened at the Grand Floridian and once again after getting off the monorail to go into Magic Kingdom. The screening at Grand Floridian was a complete nightmare, no real lines just people pushing and shoving. And we ran into the same thing getting off the boat from Wilderness lodge. Our dates were December 12-17 2017.

It was December 8-16 2017.

Bizarre, do you know your exact dates at MK? Maybe y'all went the same day and it was a 1 day thing.
Where on this map did they have it?
#6 is the only place I've ever seen it and I was there in December 2017 too. There was no screening after getting off the monorail. They only did the scanning at #6
So where did they set something up?
And we were back in March and it was just like the photo below, only at #6, no where else (well, and under the awnings #2/3 for the boats)

Thanks for posting the map, I was looking for something like this!

I’m really curious about this too. Apparently I shouldn’t have put it past Disney to set up a second screening point...

We were there on 8,9,13,and 15 along with park hopping on other days. They had long security areas going horizontal in correlation with the picture starting under location 10 (like under the bottom of the number 10). On both sides, with a break in the middle for non-bag. 6 was there but we NEVER used it. There was maybe 20ish stations on both sides to pick from (but not all had security at them, so not all were in use). It was a big operation compared to when we went in September 2016 with the "temporary" few metal detectors.

They are all gone now, and were gone before the 8th and by the 28th too, for that matter. Guess they were just there for your trip, sorry to say.

I still don't understand why they don't fix this need for double screening to enter Epcot from the monorail.
There is no way to board a monorail without going through the screening process.
So you get off at Epcot and have to go through again. Totally unnecessary.
It would not be that difficult to funnel the people from the monorail discharge ramp past the checkpoints.
Yes, they would need to set up some barriers which could be as simple as portable screens if they don't want to construct anything permanently.
It happened to be one of our longest waits on a recent trip, which I know could have been simply poor line choice. But the knowledge that the whole process was unnecessary since we'd already been screened made it that much more annoying.

I have been saying the same thing. I could not figure out why they didn't simply put the exit inside the secure area. You don't have to double clear going the other way because the entrance is inside the secure area.

This is strange. Since I got my AP last summer, there was a security checkpoint for guests coming from Buses, but the boat ramps exited past that checkpoint. When I took the boat from WL recently, the only security checkpoint was on the dock. Same for GF. Only checkpoint was on the monorail platform at GF. The Red launch is well inside the secure area. The Ferryboat launch is at the edge and I could see something happening that required the exit to be rerouted before the Bus security check. The only way I could see that for the Red/Green launches is if they rerouted them through the Ferryboat queue area and to the bus stops.

Never walked from Contemporary, so not sure where they are checked. I made the mistake one time (on a party night as all the non-party guests were leaving and the monorail/ferryboat lines were insane long) of walking past the Bus security check to look for the rumored TTC Bus, then deciding the take the ferry when it wasn't running that night. I had to go back through just to get to the ferryboat and they were putting everyone through the scanners.

We'll be staying at BLT and plan to walk to MK for rope drop several non EE mornings (just the way our dates worked out). Are there long security lines for rope drop generally for the contemporary/BLT security check? In DL, the GC hotel has an entrance w/ security line to DCA and at park open (an hour before actually) the line would be so long it would actually be faster to walk to the regular DCA entrance. Just trying to understand if we need to leave extra early on our rope drop mornings.

Yes, this really had me confused as well! Glad to see this was limited as we really like the dedicated security area at the boat and not having to deal with the bus security lines.

We only ran into lines more than a couple people deep when we walked to MK near opening time. When we walked over about an hour to 45 mins before opening we were fine.

Same experience as PP here. Have never seen the line more than 5-10ish deep. A lot of times there’s no one in line.

(It’s AWESOME BTW).

We went for Thanksgiving 2017 and also never had the second security check for MK. We stayed at Shades of Green. We walked to Poly for our MK visits and did the security before boarding the monorail. We were not checked a second time.

One night, my kids were in MK and I walked over from the Contemporary to meet them. Because the Contemporary path checkpoint was not set up, they had security personnel standing at the end of the path instructing people to go through the bus drop-off bag check. Since I wasn't going into the park, I just stayed back to wait for them (we were planning to walk back to the Contemporary).
