Do reservation modifications cost points?

I was curious if DVC charges you points to modify reservations.

Only if the modification requires more points .Or it's close to the arrival date and then it's the whole Holding thing.

But for normal no they don't get more points for just a change.

There is no penalty for making modifications to your reservation. If your initial reservation cost 100 points and you added one more night and that night required 20 points, you would be charged just the additional 20 points. If you dropped a night and that night required 20 points then 20 points is returned to your account.

If you change anything that reduces the total points required for the reservation (dropping nights, changing to a smaller villa, changing to a resort that requires fewer points) and you make the change 30 days or less from your check-in date, the points freed up by the modification go into "holding". Points in "holding" cannot be banked so they must be used by the end of your Use Year. In addition, they can only be used to make a reservation 60 days or less from check-in.

I was looking at the 2006-2007 vacation planner tonight. On the page where it talks about housekeeping/trash and towel it also said something that surprised me...it said that if upon arrival you request a different accomodation including different size, floor, or view you will be charged a changed reservation fee. I can't tell you how many times we have checked in at DVC, gone to our room and proceeded to call the front desk and request a different room for various reasons. We were never charged. Did anyone else read that in the vacation planner?

That clause is there for the occasions (and they DO happen) when guests want a room change after staying a night in the room. The charge ($25, I think) is to cover the cost of the additional full cleaning for the room and to discourage guests from that habit. If you arrive and ask for a different location/floor/building (and one is available) there is no charge. If you demand a change the next morning, you may be charged.
