Do rental car companies "price match"?

Lets say I find a great price at Budget and make a reservation. On day of arrival, the line at the Budget counter is huge. Meanwhile there is no line at all at the Hertz counter. In this scenario, I am likely to walk over to Hertz and show them my Budget reservation price quote and see if Hertz will price match. Has anyone tried this?

I don't know the answer but if your concern is about having to wait in a long reservation line I'd suggest that you join the various car rental companies' loyalty programs. By joining you get special treatment when you go to pick up your vehicle - typically direct to the garage or designated queue at the reservation desk where the next available reservation agent will call for you before anyone waiting in the long, regular customer queue.

Generally not, But once in awhile an agent might price match. Depends on how full the lots are with unreserved cars and what kind of demand is expected (such as Daytona Week). Usually rental agents will try to charge you a higher walk up rate.

Agents are even less likely to price match people coming ov er from a long line if prior experience individually had it that the agent did not succeed in selling extras such as collision coverage or a tankful of gas.

I've never heard of them doing that. And I've seen hugely long lines only once or twice. If Hertz (for instance) doesn't have a long line, it's most likely because they didn't offer any good rates. So, why would they now offer them?? They would more likely just charge you the going rate...no price matching.
