So do the 'points' needed to stay at the Disney Hotels go up every year? I saw the post about the cruise going up in 2003, so does this mean that year after year I will be getting 'less' and 'less' for my points?

Debra

The points to stay at DVC resorts can fluctuate but if something goes up, something else goes down. The total number of points remains the same.

The points need to stay at non-DVC resorts both at WDW and elsewhere do not have this control. Yes, they can go up. The points need for WDW resorts stayed pretty stable for over 5 years. Last year they changed the system to allow booking of room type and there were some dramatic increases. The increases for next year are much more modest.

Thanks, my Hubby just explained this to me too. I guess I thought that all the 'Disney' stuff stayed about the same. But at least by the resorts staying about the same I should be able to get good use out of my points every year.

I'm new and still trying to figure all of this out.
:p

Thanks!
Debra

Perhaps given the increase supply and decrease demand we've seen this past year, and all the specials they are running for cash customers, we should see a decrease, with better point values at non-DVC Disney Resorts. It would make sense, but I'll bet they just continue to go up.

Has anyone seen a point "reallocation" within a DVC resort? If so, what exactly occurred?

In 1995 or 1996 there was an adjustment with the adventure season seeing about 15% increases with minor changes other times to compensate. A studio went from 69 to 80 points. That has been the only reallocation. When BW was selling, they instituted the standard view part way through without any increase in the "preferred" view. This was in effect a decrease overall.

The way my guide explained t to me was like this: The points needed for The Disney Colection could go up OR down. It is detemined by the relationship of the cash price between the two resorts involved (a room at the Poly, must be offset by a rental at VWL.) If the cash rates at the Poly go up, but VWL stay the same, it will cost MORE points to stay at the Poly. If the cash price at VWL goes up, but the Poly stays the same, it will cost you LESS points. This at least, is according to my guide. I used VWL and the Poly just as examples, but obviosly it's the same theory between any DVC, and Disney Collection resort. Hopefully in the long run it will even out.

I expect to see points for exchanges to fluctuate. They are going high now for a reason, occupancy at WDW is down. This makes the points less valuable to them. When occupancy is very high, we will see the points go down again.

A while back, before DCL, we could use points for Carnival. We did this one year. We did it because the points had a major decrease from the year before. I would guess this was '95 or '96.

I would expect all exchanges to fluctuate, CC, WOD and DCL.
