Last year I was in Disney for 3 weeks in December. Stayed at FW from 19th December for a week and took advantage of the value season rate along with the AP discount. This year going again for 3 weeks and staying at SSR in 1 Bed Villa, again from 19th December using the 40% discount. Was looking at prices for next year at WL and noticed that they ar no longer offering the value rate for each night of your stay as long as you get there by the last day of value season. is this correct or just a glitch in their system. At the moment a room at WL is showing as $540 a night for 19th to 27th December. Assume there may be some AP or room only discount in the future but it just seems like an incredible amount to pay. Do people really pay that? This year I am paying $222 at SSR and the room will be much bigger. Would love to stay at WL over Christmas but can't imagine I could ever justify it.
Thanks

Unfortunately there is no glitch... This is a new booking policy. Disney found another way to up their bottom line, which is great for their shareholders! The ole "supply and demand" is driving prices and as long as the rooms will fill up at these prices, they will stay high.

I just checked the WDW web site and standard view rate for holiday season is $370 per nightin 2008. Where did you get $540? Is that for concierge?

Sure they do. If some one can afford it, what's the problem. Trump towers in NY has rooms going for $5,000 a night. "Worth" is subjective, what you feel is a good price may not be what I feel is a good price. As long as the person is happy and feels they are getting what they pay for I say go for it. I love Coach bags, my sister thinks it's ridiculous that I pay $500 bucks for a bag but hey, to each his own.

Sure, they pay it.

I do want to point out that the $540 is for a concierge level room not a standard room.

Not only do they pay it, they often pay more. I know someone that took thier childrend's young adult baby sitter. They paid for an extra room for her. This wasn't at WL but at Poly. Money is relative. I can't imagine having enough money to make those choices but many do.

1) Welcome to Corporate Greed.
2) And we actually thought Eisner was greedy and bad and evil.
3) We should have been careful for what we wished.

The Vice-Presidential and Presidential Suites are always sold-out during this time period. During Holiday season $1135 or $1290 before taxes. Add another $100.00+ just for taxes.

Where Dreams Come True...if its your Dream you save and pay for it or you go into debt. The latter being the American way. Your Dream come true may not include Concierge at the Wilderness Lodge or a nanny with kids in ANOTHER room, but for many its what they want and they figure out a way to pay for it. Disney is just prepared to fufill those Dreams! :wizard:

There actually are even more expensive vacations to be had. :scared1:

I was happy at a Mod with Free Dining and Parkhoppers. The key for me was I was actually on vacation and my family was with me. My Dream came true and its paid for so its hasn't become a nightmare! :thumbsup2 Work was a bit of a nightmare upon return, but a couple of days as Cruella DeVil and things seem to fall back into place, funny how that happens. :confused3 ;)

We just wish we had created that Mouse, his friends and their playlands. ;)

Markets set prices. That is the most efficient way. Read Thomas Sowell's "Basic Economics" to gain an understanding of why it has to be that way.

A quick example would be this. If they arbitrarily set the price at say, $200, to be "fair", what's to say some wealthy guy who likes breathing space wouldn't just book up 3 rooms for his family rather than 1? Or that demand in general would be much higher, making it harder for all of us to find a free room? This means that you'd have a harder time getting a room at any price.

Supply and demand, there's no getting around it, and as long as you keep paying they'll keep raising prices.

Disney caters to all. Those who won't pay $540 will pay $150 at a moderate.
