Do people really expect posters to qualify eveything?

I don't like using "IMO" because obviously whatever I say is my opinion, why should I have to be redundant by saying "IMO". But I have been around enough message boards to know that sometimes, to keep the peace, you have to toss in the occasional "IMO".

Just to keep people from getting their proverbial undies in a bunch.

The ONLY reason I do it as well.

I do however refuse to use DW and those most things like it. Just fine typing wife when it's time to use that word.

Thanks Christine! :)

You ALWAYS try to be nonconfrontational?? ;) Very funny and I agree. :teeth:

I meant ALWAYS as in the "when I feel like it" definition of ALWAYS. :rotfl:

And I have to ask...Is the blond "Goofballs rule" picture you? Just have wondered that for a while.

Exactly. I responded to something once and someone quoted me and said, "Well that's your opinion." Uh, exactly. I wrote it so it's what I think. Where in my post did I say, "You feel this way"? :sad2:

Oh and I don't mind causing people's panties to bunch up. It's kind of fun sometimes. :teeth:

Yes, yes, yes!!!

It drives me nuts! I was once on a thread about kids & finances and I made some comment to the effect that I would advise any young woman to wait before starting her family so she can be as financially secure as possible.

Right as rain another poster came along with "Well what if she already has money? Why should she wait and risk losing her fertility." Well DUH! Of course in that situation the outcome would be different. Some people are so eager to have a bone to pick that they don't mind ignoring common sense.

I need one of those quiet, fast-talker guys at the end of all of my posts to say "theaboveisonlytheopinionofthisparticularposteranddoesnotconstitutethegospeltruthforeverysinglecircumstanceunderthesunbutratherageneralidea"

What I find amazing (and not necessarily in a good way) is when someone will post something like...

"Last night I took my mom to the hospital and she ended up having to have open heart surgery. We were there all night and would have even eaten there if the hospital cafeteria had been open. The doctors weren't sure that she was going to make it but she seems to be doing fine now. With some bed rest, prayers and TLC she'll be up and around before long. PLease remember my mom and me in your prayers (as I'll be missing work to take care of her.)"

Someone else will then post...

"Why would you be surprised that the cafeteria was closed?!? Don't you think that cafeteria workers need some rest? They aren't supposed to work 24 hours a day, you know!"

I just want to scream..."DID YOU READ THE ENTIRE POST OR JUST THE SECOND SENTENCE? " It's as if some posters just read everone's posts to pick out any little word or phrase that will give them cause to jump on their self-righteous soapboxes.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh. I always try to be nonconfrontational on this board, but I absolutely hate this. It's unfair to people to pick apart every syllable of one's post.

I will now return to my happy place :goodvibes

You are spot on!!!
I hate this when people do this and I agree it's as if they are looking just to pick a fight!

Thinking of the many times people have replied to others because they didn't put it in something like IMO, SOME people, MOST people, etc. Shouldn't it be assumed that nobody really thinks it includes everything or everybody unless they actually say so?

Maybe I'm the only one this gets to, but it really bugs me to see people reply that people are "painting with a broad brush" because they leave out a some or IMO.
Which is exactly why I've become so dag on paranoid posting on the boards. Just recently someone posted something about being Disney losing it's magic and then they explained that on their last trip the hotel was awful; they had to travel daily through traffic to get to WDW; the people they were with always wanted to do other things (leave early, go back to the 'hotel' or go shopping at malls). So I explained about staying on site and I expressed over and over how *it was my opinion* that on site is better and in *my opinon* part of continuing the magic is staying on site. I said a few other things to. I kept expressing *my opinion* because I knew inevitably someone would be like, "Well that's your opinion blah, blah, blah"
And like someone else posted. . .of course it's my opinion, I wrote it!! I didn't say you had to follow it but our opinions were asked for so I gave it!!

OK, I'm stepping of my soap box now.

LOL, I know exactly what you mean. I actually considered making a new siggie to reflect that my opinion is only that and I am never meaning 'all' or 'every' unless I specifically state ALL and EVERY.

I tend to think that sort of argument is a tactic to divert the discussion.
