Do people "get into" pirate day?

Yes, that is a hidden Mickey on my dog's rump.

One of our favorite vacation days we have ever had as a family, was the SWDAS on our cruise a couple of years ago. We all dressed up, got into character for the day, and had an absolute blast.

On our upcoming cruise, there is no SWDAS, nor MDAS :( , only the Pirate day. On our first cruise, we didn't really get into Pirate day- just put the bandanas on for dinner, and went to the show/fireworks. I also wasn't really paying attention to the activities, and if people were dressing up, getting into character, etc.

Would we be terribly out of place if as a family, we got all pirate-dressed up, really got into character, spoke in pirate speak, and generally acted like pirate nutballs for the day? Our pirate day is a port day (Tortola) and we don't have any shore plans, so I'd guess we'll be back on the boat by early afternoon. Are there many pirate themed activities going on during the afternoon? Or is it limited to the dinner menu, show, and fireworks? There aren't many details on the DCL site about it. (I think for the rest of my family, if we were the only ones getting into it.. they'd bail..)

Oh you will fit right in. There will be plenty of people dressed up. The whole theme that day will be pirates. There will also be plenty of activities on the ship

yikes I thought a few dollars worth of pirate accessories would do for us (first cruise coming this fall)...This makes me think we may be out of place!

Did you see the 2nd picture? There are about 2 dozen people on the picture, 2 fully dressed up and I can see 2 bandanas. You can go all out or just stay low key with Pirate Night or not do anything at all. No one will notice if you don't dress up, or just stick to the bandanas given to you.

Awesome!!! I don't know why, but I barely remember pirate day on our first cruise.. it is probably because the entire first-cruise-experience was one amazing surprise after another. I suppose it would be kind of strange to go walking around Tortola in full-on pirate gear.. so we'll probably plan on getting into character after we return from shore. :D

We always get dressed up. My wife likes making the period clothing for us all, we've got hats, FEATHERS (lots of them), fake pirate bling...it's really a madness. But the fun kind

You will be fine. Some people go all out, some do as you have plan, and some will do nothing. We've gone on 5 cruises that had pirate night. Since it is on port days(has always been a port day on all our cruises), you don't usually see a ton of people get dressed up for it until later afternoon/evening. On most of our cruises, I've seen less people who go really all the way. You will fit in with whatever you you want to do.

We got medium dressed up and were fine. Some will go all-out, some will do nothing at all, some will wear just a few things. Whichever you choose - nobody will look at you askance. ;-)

We enjoyed getting into the spirit of Pirate Day. We even had plastic good pirate coins to hand out. It was a lot of fun. We even had people who wanted to take pictures with us!

You can do as much or as little pirate attire as you like. No one will bat an eyelash either way. Now I did a Halloween on the high seas sailing last fall, however, and I did feel out of place not being dressed up as an adult. I would say 90% of the adults were in costume. But did this negatively affect my trip? No.

I would guess 80% of the ship dresses up for pirate night. Some in full on theatrical costumes and some in just bandanas and everything in-between.

Its fun!!!

We took my nephew when he was about 5. He likes to be different so on Pirates night he wore nothing pirate, even though his brother was in full costume (as was most of our group). The next day, which was NOT pirate day lol, he wore his costume while everyone else on the ship wore normal clothes. The moral of that story is that its OK to dress as much or little as a pirate as you want.

In that case...

Yarrrrr.. Come April we be scupper'n those long clothes!
