Do Parks Open Earlier than Posted?

For the fun of it, I checked the wait times on Disney Expedition app at Epcot. Rides are showing times with Test Track showing 30 minutes BUT the park doesn't actually open until 9am. It is 8:50am right now.

Do they open the gates early? And if so, what time should you actually arrive if you want to get there for rope drop? We plan on trying rope drop on our Epcot day to ride TT without a FP.

Is today an EMH day? Last year I remember HS opening about 15 minutes early, but not any other park.

Maybe that's the wait time they start the day with knowing that within 10 minutes of park opening it will be at least that amount of time?

I think they do. We arrived a few mins before opening and people were already in the park.

So how early do you all show when you want to be there for rope drop (which perhaps is earlier than posted hours)?

Most hard-core RDers would recommend an 8:15 arrival at the latest. When we arrived at DHS for an 8:00 ADR (got there around 7:40ish? I think) there were already people lined up at the regular tapstiles. That's just crazy, IMO.

At MK in August, we'd done two rides before 9:00. They never used to open that park early before, but with A&E/7DMT mania times have changed!

We go to WDW many times a year, and they OFTEN open the parks earlier than the posted time...even on very slow days. I think it has to do with how many people are lined up and crowding the space at the tapstyles...too many people in the limited space between the tapstyles and the actual entrance, and they will open the park early (or if it's pouring down rain...they will open early) Our experience is DHS often opens 15-20 minutes early...Epcot 15 minutes early...MK 10 minutes early. AK is the least likely to open early, in our experience, though it has happened occasionally...but more in the 5 minutes early range.

Now there is a drawback to the early-opening...they also often have parts of the park still roped off, inside the park. Like MK may have rope across the entrances to Fantasyland and across the bridge that gets you to Adventureland, etc. And if they have the ropes up inside, then they generally do not drop that rope until the actual 9:00 opening time. So you get through the tapstyles and into the park, but you're still waiting for 9:00 AM to get on a ride.

At Epcot, when they open early, the rides are usually going. We have been on Soarin' at 8:50 AM on a day the park opened at 9:00 officially. And RnR or ToT at 8:45 AM. But have also gotten to RnR at 8:45 and were told the ride would not go until 9:00 AM opening time. So first on the ride, but not early.

We only do rope drop at MK....in our experience it has opened 10 minutes early for years. With that said- we usually get there around 8:20. By 8:30 the place is mobbed. What a difference 10 minutes can make!
