I just booked this yesterday for January 17 and no mention was made of a different location.

Any suggestions for another great breakfast buffet? It's just me and DH, both early 50's, on our first trip to DL and all he requested was a good breakfast buffet (characters or not, doesn't matter).

What about the Plaza? I love the victorian decor, but couldn't seem to find out what characters are there?

Or, we're staying at the GCH and I saw that there's one there too. How is it?

It's been awhile, but as I remember, the best breakfast buffet was at the Storyteller's Cafe in the Grand Californian. (I should qualify that a bit--for adults). As I recall, the food was wonderful. I don't know if they still have the characters or not.

I don't know food quality wise, but the Plaza Inn has the biggest variety of characters, IMO. Ds1 did that one with his grandparents last time they went. The advantage of the character breakfasts outside of the park is that you can do them when the park isn't open and not waste park time at breakfast!

We ate at Storytellers last May and loved it. The food was good, and the buffett wasn't that much more $$ than the meals off the menu. The characters that were there were the "Woodland friends" such as; Meeko, Brother Bears, (Kenai & Koda) and a few more. Here's a good article with pictures that I found with details!

Another vote for Storytellers - especially since you are staying at the Grand. It will be really easy to have breakfast before the parks open and not waste park time eating.

I wish I could remember the name of the omelet guy that works there. We laugh because he kinda resembles the Seinfeld Soup Nazi! Anyway this guy makes the most amazing omelets! He caramelizes the cheese on the outside of the omelet instead of stuffing it inside. Yummmmm... We are always disappointed when we go and he's not there, but the rest of the food is amazing regardless. Love that they bring the Mickey waffles out fresh to the table.

The only thing I really wish you could get at Storytellers that you can't is the Peanut Butter and Jelly Pizza! I am a PB fanatic so it's one of my favorite things ever!

When I called and made my reservations they told me the refurb is scheduled to be finished on January 26.

Boy, I am glad I found this thread. We are supposed to eat there on Saturday night and I don't like the looks of that at all! For what we would pay, it has to be the overall experience we've always known and loved, somehow this just doesn't look worth it!

It reminds me of when we had Easter Brunch at a local Hyatt a few years ago. They had it in this huge ballroom and it was noisy and it felt like we were at a wedding reception but with nothing but strangers. It was awful and this looks exactly the same.

What's going on in the refurb? Just basic maintenance and upkeep or a complete redesign of the restaurant?

We liked Minnies and saw tons of rare characters. We made ressies on a MM day and enjoyed the empty park on our way to the restaurant.
