Hello all,

We are flying out of DIA on Dec. 22 to SNA (yes, I have another post about the runway...and thanks to all who have responded, you have made me put my fears to rest!!!:scared1:)...

Anyway our daughters will be ages 14; 13; and 10 at the time of travel...does anyone know if we will need an official ID, or if a school ID will be good enough to make it through airport security...I started to panic about this topic because we are running short on time to get an official one...any info on this would be greatly appreciated...

We fly Continental, their policy is children 18 and under traveling with an adult are not required to show an ID. Our grandchildren never need ID's, but we only fly Continental. I don't know about other airlines, but it should be on their website, you just have to search for it or call your airline.

We always take our girls' birth certificates with us.

Sorry I replied to you in the wrong quote. We always fly Continental, their policy is children 18 and younger travelling with an adult need no id. When we travel with our grandchildren they never need an id. Check with your airline or on their website, you may have to search.

Meant to quote to the other poster and couldn't remove it from yours, sorry!

hey op... we just flew between the same airports, and had a 10yo and 11yo with us. i always bring dd's birth certificate with us just in case...and also had her friends with us this time. no need for them, as usual. we flew southwest...the person at security usually asked who is **** *** ?? the kids answer, and off we go!

at security at sna for the way back, dd's friend pipes up to security guy that she has an id...he says "let me see it, i dont believe you"...she starts the long process of digging through her backpack:rolleyes1...finally he says "dont worry about it this time, but dont come through my line again without it"...lol! he was being funny!

have a great trip, and im really glad you are no longer nervous about the SNA!!

We travel a lot and that seems to be the policy. The TSA agent always asks my son his name and age - occasionally he will be asked the name of the school.

I am taking my 3 grandchildren next Thursday and flying Southwest out of DIA. I talked to Southwest and called DIA TSA group and was told by both that I do not need an ID For them.

For domestic travel you should never need ID for under 18 fliers.

While they don't require under 18, they ask for it here if they are 16 and have one... but I haven't heard of anyone being hassled for not getting their license on time or anything. We always travel with passports / birth certificates just in case.

My girls are 10 & 14, for Tgiving they flew to San Diego, just the 2 of them. They did not need any type of ID, DBF and I did because we took them to their gate and watched them board and take off.
