Do kids have to eat off the kids menu?

My daughter gets very bored with chicken tenders, pizza, chesseburgers, fries, etc. And has a special affinity toward seafood.

Can kids order from the regular menu or only from the kids menu?

We are taking our first cruise on the repositioning from Florida to California through the Panama Canal.

Thanks,
Laurie

No they do not have too...

a word of caution..... the portions can be a little big for small one :D

I got an adult steak for my 2 young ones and they split it...Just enough for them

Kids can order from adults menu as well as the adults can order from the kids menu!!
You can even exchange veggies and side order too...for example, if you wanted a certain entree but don't like that particular side that goes with it, but you see another side that goes with another entree, you can order that side with your entree that you wanted. I do it all the time!! and no big fuss!!
They will give you whatever you wish to eat!!

When we cruised in July they had just redone the kids menu so they did have other options besides the usual chicken nuggets, etc. My DD had steak one night, grilled porkchops, turkey and roast beef. I think they might have had a seafood option too, but I am not sure since DD won't eat any seafood except tuna.

DS who is 12 ate off of the adult menu every night...steak on several occasions. He also went by himself to Lumiere's on our second sea day while DH and I went to Palo Brunch...said he had the best meal, sat at a table by himself, ordered caeser salad, pasta with olive oil, garlic and sun dried tomatoes, and his new favorite drink...a Shirley Temple...he fell in love with those...of course each one he had on the cruise had no less than 6 cherries each. A kid's heaven! Also, DS really enjoyed running up to deck 9 for a slice of pizza when the hunger bug hit...he even ordered room service on his own when DH and I were out.

So, have no fear...your daughter will be fine!

This is good to know... DD6 loves fish/seafood and also gets tired of kids food. I'm glad she'll be able to order from the adult menu. Too bad they don't offer special smaller portion "real food" selections for the kids, not all kids live on a diet of fried and processed foods!

The portions even for the adult meals aren't huge. It's not like the chain restaurants where everything is so big that it's more like 3-4 servings.

My DD (12), typically ordered whatever salmon dish they had, and it was usually a piece of salmon about 1 1/2 times as big as a deck of cards. I think they have small portions of the side dishes (typically 5 spears of asparagus, or 4-5 pieces of potato), so it's not like your child is going to be wasting a really large amount of food. Have them order what they like (or even something they think they'll like). It's the perfect time to experiment, because believe me, if you don't like your dinner, they are all to happy (even insistent) to bring you something else!

On my last cruise my server gave me a hard time about ordering a lobster for my 6YO DD. I wanted her to try it and he acted like I was only ordering another one so I could get two - I wasn't. He ended up splitting the "extra" one between myself and my husband instead of giving to DD. It was kind of strange. It was the only time I wanted her to try something off of the adult menu. She was happy with the kids menu all of the time (especially the soup).

It would be nice if they updated the kids menus. I don't know why restaurants feel the need to limit their choices to mac and cheese, greasy fried chicken, and french fries. So unhealthy. Yuk. Anyhow, the kids can eat off any menu and you can always get a side order of veggies for them.

I always smile when I see those glasses full of cherries. I remember what a treat that was when I was a little girl. I can't imagine how many they go through on the cruise ships. :earseek:

Look at my post earlier up in the thread. They have updated the menu (at least on the Wonder and I would think the Magic would be the same). They still had the typical stuff, but they had at least one other option a night, maybe two I can't remember.

The menu on the Magic has also been changed. On our first cruise, my older dd ate mostly off the adult menu. This August she ate primarily off the children's menu-steaks, roast chicken, pasta (maybe lasagna?) and was quite happy.

Even my 2 1/2 yo won't eat off of a Kid's Menu - it way too unhealthy. He is a health nut - no thanks to his Mom who really loves chicken nuggets so I have no idea where he gets it from. But when we go out, he gets food from the main menu parred down to his size. Its usually not a problem.

Both my kids (6 and 4 at the time) had Lobster. They were looking forward to it. I don't personally eat Lobster, but give me a Filet Mignon and a shrimp cocktail.

I just checked out Barb's site and looked at the most recent menus for the kiddies. They actually look pretty good. That's a huge change from when we cruised. They still have the typical kiddie stuff but they also include 2 or 3 entrees that are healthier like turkey, salmon, or meatloaf. They can get a side of fries, slaw, baked potato, and/or veggies. I really like the improvement to the menu. Way to go Disney!

That's strange, because on my last cruise I ordered two lobster right from the start for myself, and our server brought me three - said I looked hungry.

I have never on any of my Disney cruises had any server give me trouble about ordering anything... in fact, on the first cruise, Sasha went out of his way to get me hot chocolate every night. And, he brought one of each dessert - even if we didn't order them - just so we could try them. My niece ordered off the adult menu the entire time - no trouble at all.

Oh, I just remembered something about the kid's menu from our Thanksgiving 2004 cruise...one night the other mom seated with us ordered off of the kid's menu without any problem. She ordered the chicken noodle soup, which I had wanted to order, but didn't think I could. She just asked the server because one of her daughters had it on a previous night and mom thought it looked good, so when it showed up on the menu again, she asked if she could have a bowl. She said it was tasty!

Our kids ( & 11) have always ordered off the adult menu if something looked good to them. Many nights we all order the same appeitizer.
