Had my dog groomed yesterday at Petco. I wasn't aware they have a self service area as well as professional grooming. For $10 you can "do it yourself", all supplies right there. Not bad. Thought I'd share. paw:

I didn't know that, thanks. I am sick of paying 60.00 every 6 weeks. I will have to check that out.

A bottle of Nair, a tub, and your done. Should only need to do this about twice a year. But you really have to like the nekid look :teeth: . Actually we just spent 30 bucks getting the poddle groomed . DW didn't like the Nair idea :confused3 :teeth:

That is a cute concept for those do-it-yourselfers. Our groomer is $40 (w/ tip)for the whole ball of wax. I don't think thats too bad at all- she does a much better job than I could I'm sure.

I don't know what kind of dog you have but if it's a small one (poodle, shih tzu, schnauzer, westie etc) you can pretty much bet you're paying $60 for an hour's worth of work. AND you're probably dropping off in the morning and can't pickup until the afternoon. Right?

We have a grooming salon 30 minutes away which offers self-grooming. We've used them on occasion but they close at 3pm so it's difficult to get there. Petco has much better hours. And what's nice about going there (as opposed to DIY at home) is the big blowers that blow the loose hairs off. God knows we need that around here, LOL. :rolleyes1

IMO, there are some things worth paying for! :teeth:

Missy doesn't cooperate when I try to brush her out, I can't imagine trying to bathe her. She finds a position she's comfortable in, and won't budge, even when I need her to move so I can get to another part of her body. I can't fathom how I'd move her when she's all wet and soapy!

Still, it sounds like a great idea for those that are willing to do it themselves, and don't want to get the bathtub full of dog fur...

Yes that's right. I just may try trimming him myself. I pay more for him than myself. :confused3

I tried this with my cat and as you can see from the results he was not too happy with me. He hasn't meowed to me since that day. :teeth:

It took us about a year or so working with our Yorkie to make him cooporate with the trimmers...etc. We started taking him to the groomers when he was really young, just for sanitary trims...etc, so he'd get used to it. But he still wiggled and squirmed. Now I get his nails trimmed at the vets (no appointment necessary) and then we trim him here. We've saved a ton of money, since he's 'curly' we don't let him get too long and he's gotten used to it so every time it's getting easier :)

Fullstride, TOO FUNNY. It looks like your cat is wearing Ugg boots LOL

OMG!!! That poor kitty!! :lmao: I wouldn't be talking to you either.

We have a Pom/Chow mix. Tazz looks like a very big pom but he has more the chow fur (very thick and coarse hair). He also does not shed and his fur just keeps on growing!! A groomer wanted $65 to take care of him. :scared1: I bought a Wahl electric trimmer (it is the best you can get....you can even sheer sheep with it!!). It cost me around $40 and I have used it many times to give Tazz a hair cut. It took a couple times to get his "look" down good (we won't discuss the first cut!!) but now he's a snazzy looking pup! :sunny: I just trimmed him Saturday. His coat gets so thick and you can tell when he's uncomfortable. Took him down to 1/2 inch. I do leave his tail longer though. The first time I trimmed his tail, he looked so depressed!! :rolleyes1

Awww that picture brought back memories, your kitty looks just like mine used to but she was mostly white. I miss that girl!

If we laughed at her after we had this done she would go and hide under the bed :rotfl:

I didn't know this, what a great idea. I have to go checkout my Petco now to find out the hours for this. IWE don't mind doing this at home, but the blowers would be worth the $10 for me since the dog sheds so bad.
