Do IPODs Ever Go On Sale?

My 23 yr old DD wants an IPOD 30g for Christmas. She has to work and will not be able to go on WDW Christmas trip with the rest of us, so I would really like to give her something special. She says Apple controls the prices very closely and that the difference in price between Walmart and the Apple Store is only pennies. Has anyone ever known of IPODs being on sale or of the Apple Store having a sale?

The only sale or discount that I know of is for students/teachers. I believe it is 10% at the apple stores. Otherwise, I don't know of any sales.

They do reduce the price of older models when new versions are released, so keep watching as the newer iPods hit the market.

Apple also has a "specials" or refurbished section on their site.....I just bought a refurbished nano for much less than new and it works fine!

DH got me an IPOD nano for my b-day and he saved about $50 by buying it at Costco. You might want to check it out. They have excellent prices on most of their electronic items. HTH

We TOTALLY lucked out...Ultimate Electronics sent out an ad to our home a couple of months ago...it had a coupon attached that you could take 25% off one item and they only excluded Bose items...so we ran right in and scooped up my DHs $400 iPod for $300! It was a SUPER deal...we were going to buy him one anyways and this just made it more affordable..well really it just gave him more $$ to spend on accessories and the warranty...we would have bought it at the Apple Store or Best Buy but the deal was too good to pass up.

We have purchased 3 refurbished Nano's in the past month. 2 of them we had problems getting to work. But they come with the same one year warranty as the new ones, so we made an appointment with the apple store near us and they gave us a new one for one, and were able to fix the other one. We have been very happy with the service and the product. On the applestore website the 30G is $249.00 new and $179. refurbished. It was worth it to us to buy the refurbished one. :sunny:

Like others have mentioned, older models and refurbs are the only sale you're likely to see (other than a few dollars here and there) Apple keeps their prices pretty steady, and makes sure their authorized sellers keep their prices in line (or risk Apple discontinuing allowing them to sell) So the only time you'll ever really see a deep discount on a new (as in not used or refurbished) is if it's a model that has been replaced by a new model or generation and they're clearing out inventory. You're not going to see some of the huge deals you see on other brands with Apple. The education and government discounts seem to be the best discount you can get on new iPods.

The Apple store on line does give a student discount and one if you are a goverment employee. I ordered one on 9/24 and it arrived this morning! :mickeyjum :mickeyjum They were giving free shipping as well as free engraving.

The $250 sales price they are offering now is a drop in price. My DH just bought a 2nd gen one last week because of the price drop. He had been watching the 30g since it was over $300. With the new model just launching, you may find a first generation one marked down further somewhere.

If you go to www.applestore.com and go to the bottom where it says "Visit other Apple Stores around the world" - just click on that drop down box and it says:
US
US Eduction
US Government
. . . then all the countries.

I was wondering where, when you check out, that they show the discount was applied? I was checking out and they showed the whole total with no discount, so I didn't know what to do.

On the botom of the page where it says visit apple stores around the world you go to US Gov. Select which one applies to you and then you order. The price they show you is the discounted price. I purchased the ipod that was offered for 199.00 0n the regular page. It was 187.00 when I went into the page that had the gov discount.

They don't show a discount. . . but the price listed is different from the regular rate. If you'd look at the regular Apple store, the price would be higher for most (if not all) products.

Yes! I bought a 30GB a few weeks ago for $299! The price has now dropped to $249! Grr...

I believe students can get a 10% discount.

My nine year old wanted an iPod nano (just for music). We went to vann's and purchased a 60 gig iPod for $299 and a spliter for $10. Free shipping!

We received it and no problems! We have ordered from this company before. The iPod is tucked away and we are trying to decide if we give it to her early since we are flying to WDW on the Dec. 21st (she would like to use it on the plane for music and movies, etc.)

Great deal!

A good source for used and refurbished ipods is Amazon.com. They have all models and colors and you can also purchase an extended warranty for a used/refurbished model. Also, most of the refurbs are done and sealed directly by Apple. There are some really good deals. A couple months ago I got a Nano for my son - a refurb - and I feel like we got a pretty good deal compared to the cost of new plus we have the extended warranty so no worries.
