Do I really need a stroller bag to gate check?

I have looked everywhere for a stroller bag and I can't find one. I've checked our Toys 'R Us, Target and WalMart and no stroller bags. Is it really necessary for gate checking? I have a Mac Quest Mod and I've gone online on albeebaby.com and they have a Mac stroller bag for $50:eek: or one for an umbrella stroller for $30. I'm not sure it would fit in the $30 one. Just wondering if its really necessary. Thanks in advance.

We are just using the stroller for the airport so I may just go buy a cheapo umbrella stroller. Thanks

We use a Kidco LS2000 single stroller (similar to the Macs) and have never bagged it when gate checking. It's been on about half a dozen trips so far and I've never noticed any damage do it from the trips but maybe we've just been lucky.

What about this gate check bag at walmart.com
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5652241

Dimensions are: 43" x 12" x 12" will that work?

Like their other stroller bags, it is only offered online, unfortunately.

Not necessary. People just put it in a bag as mor of a protection thing-so it dosen't get dirty or torn. I've flown about a dozen times with my stroller (Volo)-never had a bag and never had a problem gate checking it. Mine's just the very basic Volo thouth, no hood or anything. I think if I had a nicer one I'd definitely get a bag.

Wow thanks! It even has gate check written on the bag! It might work..I'll get the tape measurer out again and see. Thank you so much.

Thanks for the link, All4fun! I think I'm going to purchase the one on the page you posted, not the red one but the big one that is "also suggested" on the right side. I've been looking for one to fit our big stroller into and can't seem to find one either...

This one looks like it should be great!

Thanks - I'm going to check out the one that all4fun mentioned. If it won't fit then I'll just not get one. I must say that I wouldn't cry too many tears if my Quest got damaged but I wouldn't want it to happen until after our trip! I'm really only bringing it to use for the airport. Thanks!

Thanks for that link! I was looking for one too and they were so expensive. This might be perfect and it's even red like my stroller. DD will be 4 soon so I'm not going to use the stroller much longer, but I still don't want it to get damaged. I hope my Quest will fit in there. Thanks!

I measured my Quest and it looks like it'll fit! Lets hope!

Just wanted to post what happened to us when we didn't use a bag when we gate checked our stroller. We were leaving MCO for home and had boarded the plane and gate checked our stroller. After boarding the plane, while they were still putting some of the luggage and our gate checked items on the plane a thunderstorm started and all of the attendants went back in the airport leaving all of our things in the pouring rain without any covers!!! :scared1: A couple people on the side of the plane were they put the luggage in noticed it and started talking about it, but nothing was done. We were delayed at the airport for about 1 1/2 hours while we waited for the storm to pass, all the while our stroller sat in the rain. We were supposed to leave at 6:30 pm, our flight didn't end up leaving until after 8 pm. Being stuck on the plane while this was going one with two kids under 4 was hard enough, they fell asleep in flight fortunately. But of course once we got off the plane at close to 11 pm I had hoped to just put them in the stroller, but it was soaked!!! I was pretty upset! Oh, and after picking up some of our luggage, it was wet also... it wasn't too bad some of the others on our flight were pretty soaked though!

I'm sure this is rare, but now i think it always better to be safe than sorry! Amy

For a real budget option, just use a 45-gal plastic lawn and leaf bag and a bungee cord. Pull the bag up over the folded stroller and poke the wheels through so that you can roll it down the jetway, then bungee it up tight to keep the stroller closed and dry. Obviously, you'll need extra bags for any add'l flight legs.

We've flown a lot and use a bag to gate check the stroller. Our stroller has never been damaged, however the bag has gotten pretty dirty so I'm sure our stroller would be dirty if it weren't in the bag.

Just the other day I was browsing the clearance sale online at KB Toys and they had a stroller bag on clearance for less than $10. I don't think I have enough posts yet to post links, but if you go to their site and look at the clearance it should be pretty easy to find. HTH someone looking for one of these bags. :)
